Hug-A-Bug Pest Control

I had a great experiencing buying a home this year and can say the only blip in the whole experience was getting the WDI inspection done. Home inspector called two beam that showed (heavy) signs of fungal growth and decay. WDI inspector said that the house had no signs of fungal growth or damage related to fungus and moisture underneath. Being in the pest control and structural repair business I was not going to let two rotten beam stop be from buying the house, but I want to make others aware of their practice. There is absolutely no company that should be giving clear WDI letters when visible damage such as the attached pictures shows. It is irresponsible and bad practice as the crawlspace is somewhere MOST homeowners don’t go. Fortunately I do routine inspections and I am confident in my ability to identify and remedy the issue. There are a lot of fail safes in the WDI paper work to cover inspectors by referencing “low-visibility” “visual inspection only” “insulation covering wood members” and so on, but the only excuse for this is gross negligence. A qualified inspector could not, and would not fail to notate these issues unless they physically didn’t complete the inspection. I won’t post the inspectors name, but be aware.

This is the second day in a row that no one has shown up for my extermination appointment. I can't get through to anyone in the office. Hug-A-Bug is cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Love this agency! We’ve used them for both of our houses and for over 5 years. There’s never a time of day where they aren’t available or the owner Mr. Jim hasn’t made sure our needs are addressed. They don’t dry to shorthand you like other companies either. We reviewed 3 other quotes from foundation companies that were well over $30k. They came in at less than half the price. They truly care about your wants and make everything urgent. Wouldn’t have picked anyone else!!

Warning to ALL Realtors and Consumers! I paid $9,125.00 on 5/13/2024 for Hug A Bug to complete termite and moisture issues on my home prior to listing it for sale. I was told work was completed. In January we received an offer and the buyer completed their home inspection. I was told the termite and moisture damage was extensive, and in desperate need of attention. I call John to ask what the problem was. He stated “I don’t know what to say”. I was furious. This company literally took NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS of my money and walked away. Never did ANYTHING. If the buyer wouldn’t have had an inspection I would have never known John and his company had quite frankly robbed me. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They will and HAVE taken people’s money and walked away. Very disappointed in this company that I had previously trusted with my own homes and my clients homes for over 12 years. He took the time to explain the treatment process and answered all my questions with patience and expertise. I recently had the unfortunate experience of working with hug a bug, and I must say it was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. Their communication was abysmal, with unreturned calls and emails leaving me feeling completely ignored. The workers they sent were unprofessional and seemed to have little to no experience in foundation repair. The job they did was sloppy at best, I went and checked my crawlspace after their supposed “fix” and noticed none of the new repairs were up to par. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of hug a bug if you value your time, money, and sanity.

If I could Give this company ZERO stars I seriously would. I have never seen a more UNPROFESSIONAL company that doesn’t show up when they say they will, a company that YOU have to chase down after scheduling an appointment and does a halfway job at what they do. When I’m spending MY hard earned money I expect more professionalism and prompt service. The first time “Jim” was supposed to arrive (after I scheduled An appointment days in advance) he “claimed” one of the guys had gotten into an accident. I was Understanding even after rushing home thru rush hour traffic to ensure I was On time, oh also after I had To call to see if he was even still coming, he then says he would come the next day, well, it’s the next day and almost 20 minutes past the time my appointment time and as you can pretty much guess based off the previous reviews he’s yet to arrive. After I AGAIN had to call him and ask if he was coming. This company is a poor excuse for a business. I would NOT recommend using this company at all and if you decide to ignore the reviews I guarantee, your negative review will follow!! Every last one of the reviews prior to this one BELIEVE and if anyone says anything differently, they’re clearly friends or family of this poor excuse of a company!!!

I am beyond upset! I was contacted by this company after I enquired on homeadvisor for pest control for rats in my garage. I thought they were going to be amazing the guy who came out was friendly and fast and explained everything well.. however this was August 13th. I have since contacted them 3x to have them come back to check the traps and do what they said they would for the 365$ we paid them. They have yet to come by or respond with more that I will check our schedule and get back to you. I have had to throw out 3 of the rats myself (2 were on my own traps not theirs) and check the other traps myself. This is absolutely unprofessional and if u dint want to get taken by them. DONT USE THEM!

HORRIBLE!!! NO STARS!! Completely did a horrible and dishonest inspection and repair of my home that has left me with my house sinking and excessive damage in my crawlspace that stands to cost me 20k in repairs. They lied on my inspection. They came back to fix damage in my kitchen floor, ripped up all my kitchen flooring and laid cheap shoddy replacement flooring that is now falling apart and detached from the wall. When they were called back out, they refused any responsibility from the beginning. I should have sued them!!! And what company leaves a single mother and her small children to purchase their first home riddled with moisture and fungus damage and lies to make a dollar?!! Worst experience of my life!! There are many more disturbing details to my entire experience, but just too much to even go into. Though, similar to others, they never showed for appointments, returned phone calls, I came home to find them already in my house working on my flooring with no one even home!! JES confirmed they never replaced wood under my house they claimed to have repaired. They pocketed repair money from the bank and left my house to crumble on its foundation. I'm still in shock they continue to be in business. Anyone who thinks highly of this company is ill-informed and JOHN was the main person I dealt with through my entire nightmare.

After a year of regular continued service for general pest prevention, we were falsely led into thinking that we had a bed bug infestation by “Tim” whom I am guessing is just a sales person. He quoted a price of 2000.00 for treatment of our home for alleged bed bugs. Since he did not actually venture further into the home than the foyer – we assumed it would be the job of the technicians to conduct an actual inspection. When the technicians arrived on site – they immediately informed me that we were ’unprepared’, and that thier sales person Tim was an ‘[explative] head case’, but they would continue to perform requested services anyway, and asked that I leave the premises. The technicians arrival time was Mon, Dec 21, 10:14 AM. The technicians Departure was Mon, Dec 21, 12:55 PM. Total time: 2 hours 31 minutes including setup and cleanup time. During the total time of 2 hours 31 minutes on site at our residence, the technicians were seen by myself, and neighbors spending a large amount of that time sitting in their vehicle, performing no action whatsoever. I received a text message from them stating that they would be finished within 15 -20 minutes. I was actually turning into my court when I received the text message and the technicians had already packed the vehicle and were about to depart. When the technicians were asked about the pricing or 2000.00 for the 2.5 hours of work and minimal services we received – they failed to deliver any kind of valid price point explaining the value of those services, stated that ‘we had already paid’ and ‘that was just how it is’. They also did not leave any invoice or sales receipt, or itemized list of charges. They were completely disrespectful and simply stated that I could ‘talk to the boss if I had a problem’. Sure enough I checked – and they had already charged our credit card the day prior. I inspected the home immediately after their departure. Little or no care was given to our personal effects as muddy footprints could be found leading all over the house, couch pillows and bedding had been simply tossed on the floor in the dirt, and items removed from our bedding were simply stuffed in the outside trash can. No attempt was made to restore the home to its previous order prior to arrival whatsoever. The kicker is - the technicians stated when asked that they had found little or no sign of a bed bug infestation.... just "a few carcasses on a box spring." verbatim. hardly a panic. We did file a complaint with the owner - who then sent the SAME two individuals back to our residence the following morning for a follow up. Same thing - asked me to leave the residence, sent me a text message after 1 hour stating they were done. They didn't know that this time I was actually sitting across the street at my neighbors house watching them do nothing but wave a steam gun around the room lazily, light of a bug bomb, and then stand outside. They have as of yet failed to make amends, or return our money. DO NOT use this company.

The terms of my service order was not explained properly. I advised that I would be moving in 90 days and would the service transfer over to the new property.i was told yes. It WASN'T I spent $265.00 for basically one bait box and 2 clue traps! I work order was done in October. What a rip off!!!

When they sent Tim came in to inspect the house, he was incredibly reluctant to actually look for bugs and didn't give us much information on the poisons ("They're organic." No, Steri-fab and Zenprox are not and are unsafe for children and pets.), methods of extermination, pets as carriers ("It'll kill anything you bring back in."), or time it would take to apply and for us to return (approximately 3 hours to complete the extermination and another 3 to let the poison settle). However he did haggle down the price of 4000 to 3000 which was appreciated (and still overpriced by what we've been told by others). When they (Tim and another man) came by to apply the poison and steam everything, we asked that they call when they were done so we could lock up the house and set the alarm since my house was almost broken into a month prior. Neither of us got the call. Contrary to what Tim said, I still did find bugs on my cat, and by Friday both my mother in law and I were still experiencing bites. We called them back at least 2 or 3 times and found it didn't create any more solutions. They even treated the in ground ventilation system but left the vents open so when I returned to the house after giving birth I found there were cats livings under my house driven there by the storm. I don't recommend this company. Far better companies can be found and easier and cheaper solutions can be made from doing the treatments yourself. Don't expect a refund (partial or full) for the amount of grief and lack of results either.
