About Gutterman Services, Inc

From humble beginnings to a well-respected establishment, like most great things, we started small. We started Gutterman Services in our parents’ basement in McLean, VA in 1986. We then progressed to a warehouse in Herndon, VA. Today, 30 years later, our Gutterman team of over 35 employees works out of our own facility that we built in 2009. We have completed more than 25,000 exterior remodel jobs and over 100,000 service visits to homes all over NoVA, DC, and MD.

UPDATE: The company called me to discuss my concerns. They confirmed that the service should have included a flush of the gutters and underground pipes to make sure all was cleared. It's too late and too cold (hose bibs turned off) to redo the service so they have comped our spring service. I'm pleased with the follow up and customer service. I just found out from my wife that the crew who cleaned our gutters was only here for 15 or so minutes and did not flush them with water to make sure they were free and clear of leaves and debris. I paid $185 for this? I don't mind paying this much if some real work was done but just getting a guy up there to blow out the gutters with a leaf blower is a cheap shortcut which amounts to a terrible value in my opinion. I have used Gutterman/Neds many times in the past but not happy this time around.

Watch out for this company. I denied their recommendation for an entire roof replacement. I just had them replace missing shingles after a wind storm. After the next heavy rain, water started gushing down the front of my house into the interior. This had never happened before their workers were on my roof. Coincidence???

No notice of the date that my gutters were to be serviced. Futhermore, I was not home when they showed up. They used a latter to climb over my locked fence to access my outside water faucet. In addition, they damaged my chimney while servicing my gutters. Attached are some photos of this damage. Very dissatisfied!!!

I have posted "no stars" since I have experienced the worst possible services. Due to a faulty gutter installation, my house incurred significant water damage. After repeated requests Ned corrected gutter problem but refused to honor the workmen guarantee claiming it was a Gutterman warranty issue and I would hear something. Several hundred dollars were spent repairing the damage. Ned refused to reimburse me and said Gutterman would follow-up. After repeated calls nothing was done. A photo of the damages is attached.

UPDATE- these folks deserve no stars. Here we go again. The kid on the phone tells me it's not their fault... Blah, blah, blah. Which is exactly the same conversation I had with a person in January, except he listened and let me send pictures. From that conversation a team came out per below. At that time i also spent a great deal of time discussing the issue again with a manager on the phone. Everything was cool. Until I ask them to follow through. The kid on the phone was inexperienced but well versed in shifting all responsibility back to client. And whining that I had no reason to be upset with him. Please, play back the recorded conversation. Anyway- except for the original purchase, every single conversation has been difficult. I want a refund. These new gutters are no better than my 28 year old gutters. Customer service is horrible I had new gutters and shields installed almost a year ago. The new system worked great with the rain, but the recent snow/freezing temps almost immediately stopped water from draining. Everything froze. Water dripped and froze below my front door and partly down the steps. I walked my short street and did not see this occurring in any town home that was the same model as mine. Nor did I see it on other models. I had new gutters installed because my old ones had been through some significantly bad weather over 27 years... And water was dripping over the gutters in the back and the water was freezing in front and causing the same issue above. Ugh! I called Gutterman/Neds. We discussed the issue. I sent several pictures. I said I understood that no one could come out until the weather was better. They came out much sooner than expected and cleared the ice from the down spout. It was labor intensive. I was/am extremely grateful that they came out and took care of this. They will come back in better weather, when it's safe, and try to determine why this happened. I spoke with a manager. Once he understood that I had lived here 28 years, had been through many, many winter storms much worse than this, that no other townhome in my immediate area had the same issue - he agreed that it could be the gutter installation. They would perform an inspection. Again, I'm very grateful they came out and cleared the ice and that they will perform an inspection. I am concerned about up coming snowy weather. I had to work very hard to convince them that it was not the location of my townhouse or the 'huge' storm we had. I will follow up on this issue. Hopefully it will have a happy ending.

Gutterman was great! I never had any problems over 10 years as a customer. Once they sold the operation to Ned’s Home Servicrs, everything changed. Be aware of unscrupulous sales practices and expect poor communication with long phone calls for any kind of customer service.

They were supposed to replace gutters on two porches in the back and replace the fascia board on the left side They came out to do the job. They got one side done. The brought fascia board that was the wronhg width and couldn't do the left side. Another crew came out the next day with a piece of untreated unpainted wood...It was obviosly too thick. I told him so. He refused to listen. He proceeded to spray some paint on it and nailed it up. I told him it was too thick. He got angry. I took pictures and sent to office. Only then did he stop work and leave...without gutters and with openings where the gutters and fascia were. They finally sent a manager out to look at it and he agreed that it was too thick. He removed the piece and said they would come out the next day with either 2 inch otr 1 inch fascia. He came out with another crew and finally after three days the job was done...I lost three days of work because of them...I want to know where to send the bill for lost income.

Would give no stars if it were an option. Gutterman was great until they were bought out by Ned Stevens. Ned Stevens provides no advanced notice of arrival, other than a text message when they are 5 minutes away. Fortunately I was home. They do not check to see if the water is coming out of the gutter drains, which is pretty basic. Gave me a card saying my drains were clear until I pointed out that water was not coming out one underground drain. They had to ask where it was - i.e., hadn't bothered to look. Seeing it was dry, they then told me it was clogged/needed to be snaked - which NS doesn't do. I told them it was more likely they didn't put sufficient water near that downspout. (That drain hasn't been clogged in 3 decades, the gutters have screens, no trees nearby etc.). They disputed - said they had put MUCH water down. They said they would do it again to show me. Then they broke my front outdoor faucet they had been using, so had to use the back outdoor faucet. As soon as they turned the water on, it came gushing out of the previously dry underground drain - i.e., proof they hadn't even sufficiently run water in the gutter, much less checked to see if it cleared the gutter. They gave me $50 off the job b/c they broke my outside faucet, which is going to cost north of $500 to repair as it has to be ordered and the copper pipe inside the house cut and welded to install a new one. I cancelled the contract.

Short story - save your time and money and go with a professional and responsive company that will stand by their work and warranty. Long story - I had Gutterman replace my roof and gutters a little over a year ago. There were red flags from the start that I look back at and now kick myself for continuing with their service. The initial person to come out missed so many things that ended up costing thousands more after work had already been started. No turning back at that point and I'm sure this was already known prior to work starting. There was even promise of some areas to repair during this initial estimate visit, but ended up costing more money. Definitely some crafty and/or shady sales tactics to get more money to complete the job right. That or the company is inexperienced in roofs with different levels, pitches and some complexity. The workers destroyed landscaping lights, did not clean up, left multiple areas of the siding and fascia unfinished and did shoddy work with the gutters while saying the job was complete. Luckily the owner came by and pointed out the deficiencies. I was happy for that fact but this also started a chain of events that spiraled down hill in terms of unprofessionalism and unresponsiveness. Over the past year and to this day, there is still an unresolved issue with the gutters that the company is not fixing. They have come out numerous times and claim that they will have a solution and will resolve it. Usually after a few weeks, I end up reaching out to find out status. There have been times that I received no response at all for weeks and had to reach out multiple times. How can I expect the company to honor their warranty if I have a leak in the roof if they are unresponsive. The owner had initially agreed to pay for the landscaping lights that were destroyed. I never got this payment even after asking multiple times. Finally I was paid a year later, but got unprofessional remarks about it. I didn't even make the initial request for the payment, yet I'm in the wrong for demanding someone to honor their word from a year ago. Read some of the negative reviews here and on yelp and you'll see there are similar stories. The positive reviews must be for simple jobs such as basic gutter cleaning. At this point, I'll have to pay more money to hire a reputable, professional and responsive company to resolve my issues and take care of any roofing or gutter needs. I'd advise anyone else to stay away from Gutterman services. Response to the owner's post: As seen in the response, the owner admits an aggravating drip, but again has no intention to resolve the issue. This aggravating drip sounds like someone is hammering the gutters when it rains and when condensation drains. Not something you'd expect when paying almost $10k for gutters. Also, while the issue to resolve at this point is the gutter noise, the owner seems to think this was the only problem that warranted such a review. As mentioned above, this is one of many issues with the company. The owner states new home owner, which we're not and not sure why they would matter. He also states extensive warranty work, which is not true. Warranty work would be work done after the initial services we're completed. All the work performed has been because the initial service we're never completed properly. Most of these deficiencies were pointed out by the owner himself during a walk through last year. What's sad is that I cannot get an issue resolved that the company and owner promised to do, which I have in writing; and cannot rely on them if I ever need warranty work in the future even though I paid thousands extra for the lifetime guarantee on the gutters.

A very large redesign extensive roofing/gutter job on a nice big old home for the new first time home owners. Lots and lots of details implemented and warrantied on this home. All for not, to receive this review over one $100 broken landscape light and an aggravating drip in a downspout from an AC condensate drain.. Wow.... how sad to have received this review! Cjp

I tried to use Gutterman for the first time in late December, they charged my card and I assumed as a result of that, the gutters were cleaned. When I scheduled my second cleaning for this month, they have now cancelled the date on me twice without calling ( I had to call them to find out). When I called, it turns out they never even did the December cleaning because they say the water wasn't turned on which I could have known if they followed up with a phone call but instead they lazily stole $125. Don't use them, seems like it's a mess over there.

I called about a leak in my roof. They said they would inspect it for $225.00 but they couldn't tell me when they would be out. They were supposed to call before they came out. They didn't call. Fortunately I was home and the inspector said I needed flashing around my dormers and my ridge vent was coming off. He also recommended that I replace any non metal flashing. He said I would get a quote for the work with the pictures he took on the roof and the items would be itemized since some were just recommendations. I got an email a few days later with a list of the work but no photos and a cost of over $2,000. I called and asked for an itemized quote. A few weeks passed and they didn't get back to me. I then got a bill for the inspection even though they had already charged my credit card. I called and that was resolved. I called again to get the detailed quote. I was promised the quote the following week. It never arrived. I called back and no one answered. I was sent to voice mail but couldn't leave a message because the box was full. I gave up and called another roofing company. They came out and gave me a quote of $400.
