Inhumane. Unethical. Unprofessional. Kara who answers the phone has repeatedly talked over me, has been extremely rude and quick to respond without hearing anything I have to say. She has a fake nice voice but the second you raise a concern about the way squirrel removal is handled inhumanely, she snaps. My boyfriend called with the same issue and she was nicer to him but was a ticking time bomb. Weird. This company has just left squirrels in cages to starve and die miserably and then they leave them for days, even a week. This has happened twice. I don't like seeing wildlife suffer a slow death because of their negligence and refusal to listen to me. I wouldn't think it matters who this information is coming from if you take your work so "seriously." You should take accountability and trap and release squirrels more humanely if you are so concerned about animal welfare. I expect professionalism and empathy in a company when customers having ethical issues. This company was far from giving this.

Response from Holper's Pest & Animal Solutions STL

Thank you again for sharing your concerns. We take all matters related to animal welfare, professionalism, and ethics very seriously. Our company provides wildlife control services on behalf of the property management team, and as such, we are not authorized to communicate directly with individual tenants. We encourage you to bring any issues or concerns to your property manager, who can coordinate with us if needed.<br>Thank you!

I have used Safeway in the past for humane solutions to animals in our attic. I guess Holper’s acquired Safeway because when I called the number, they answered. The gentlemen came out and did not tell anyone what he was doing and left. I had to call and try and figure out what was going on. He came back that day and set a trap on the ground for an animal in our attic. He did not go in to the attic and I am not sure he was even up on the roof. We did catch an opossum and we did not want it killed. Everything they catch, they kill. I was going to let the opossum go on my property. That is the rule in Saint Louis County. I put the trap in my yard behind 2 locked gates. The worker from Holper’s broke in to my yard to retrieve the trap and the animal with the intention of killing it. I was told on the phone that they would not pick up the trap until the following business day and the worked hopped my privacy fence to obtain the trap and the opossum. I have the footage on my Ring camera. Just now I received an invoice and they want to charge me for breaking in to my yard and retrieving their trap a day early. This is a ridiculous way to do business and very disappointing.

Response from Holper's Pest & Animal Solutions STL

Hi Jennifer, <br><br>It was a pleasure speaking with you recently, and we genuinely appreciate your feedback. <br><br>As this is a public platform and one that potential customers use to evaluate our services, we believe it appropriate to clarify some of the information contained in your review.<br><br>Regulations for Nuisance Animal Trapping & Removal are set forth in the Wildlife Code of Missouri under 3 CSR 10-4.130, issued by the Missouri Department of Conservation. The City or County regulations you referred to are less stringent and are primarily for homeowners engaging in their own trapping activities. Licensed and regulated Nuisance Wildlife Trappers are required to follow stricter regulations provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation. <br><br>Safeway’s former owner, operated his business for 27 years, and considered many of his customers a part of his extended family. When he decided to retire, his paramount concern was entrusting his legacy to a company that mirrored Safeway’s values – local and family-owned, committed to superior customer service, and most importantly, ethical wildlife management practices. After evaluating several options, Safeway found that Holper’s best embodied these principles and both companies comply with the Nuisance Trapping & Removal regulations. <br><br>Safeway’s records show that you became a customer in 2019 due to an ant issue but there are no records of any animal trapping services performed by Safeway. So perhaps it was another company that had dealt with your prior wildlife issue and the regulations have changed since that time?<br><br>In response to your question about our technician accessing your attic–during the inspection, he identified the animal entry point on the exterior of your home and therefore, there was no need to access the attic space.<br><br>All professional wildlife traps have copper tags that display our name, address, etc. as required by the Department of Conservation. Conservation agents utilize this information when they find protocols are not being followed. We can be fined, lose our license and more if agents find us not complying with the regulations. Because of this risk, we ask customers to refrain from tampering with or moving any of our traps. Additionally, we are required to promptly retrieve any trapped animal within 24 hours of notification.<br><br>When you and your husband separately alerted us to the trapped animal, we explained our obligations under Department of Conservation rules and scheduled a technician to retrieve the trap and animal. At no point did we suggest or imply that the animal would be released.<br><br>Following subsequent communication, where you expressed dissatisfaction with the planned outcome for the trapped animal, you requested to end the trapping service altogether. Consequently, our technician went to retrieve the trap but found it had been moved to a fenced area, contrary to our protocol and instructions. We do not condone the technician's decision to retrieve the trap without proper authorization. <br><br>Regarding the invoice, its issuance is an automated process. However, in light of our discussion, we have waived all fees and issued a full refund to your credit card for your inconvenience.<br><br>We are sorry we did not earn a 5 star review on your service, but we hope in the future you will give us another opportunity. <br><br>Thank you!<br>

We recently had Holpers come out initially for a squirrel problem which we thought was in our attic. Joseph came out and put up a monitor at the spot where we thought was the point of access. He showed me two pictures, one where we thought they were getting in, the other is a spot in our fascia that has been repaired several times and never lasts, as birds move in every year and they have never caused any issues. He was polite and punctual. He said he would return in a week, check the monitor, repair what needed to be repaired etc. That week came and he checked the monitor to find no activity, he then offered me the option to repair and I respectfully declined the fix to both open areas. I appreciated the offer and the service the provided for us. Fast forward two weeks. I saw a squirrel in our fascia, the initial hole that the birds have always lived in, and the hole that I told Joseph to leave alone. This was on me. I then called Holpers again, 2/22/24 and spoke with Holly. I verbally told her that our squirrel issue has not been resolved. She responded with saying that it was a bummer and their technicians do a full scope of all roofs and apologized to me. I quickly stopped her and informed her that they had conducted their initial scope perfectly and that it was my choice to leave the fascia hole open. It was. I told her that Joseph would need to bring traps because there were active squirrels living there. I was told he would be by 2/23/24, I happily agreed. I came home to find no traps set, but what I did come home to was a screwed shut hole without my knowledge and had the great pleasure to find a squirrel stuck in our roof actively trying to get out. I called again, very upset and informed them of the situation that this squirrel was stuck and that someone needed to come fix this. I was spoken to like I was an idiot. Holly told me that no screws had been used, etc. but she would call Joseph. Mind you, I was staring at a screw that I certainly didn’t put in, nor did I give consent to fix the hole. So Joseph took it upon himself, without our permission, to put a screw in and fix the problem without making sure our roof was squirrel free and locked them in. When I specifically said the day before on the phone that we needed traps. I was NOT given the same curtesy as before to decline or accept services, this was just done without communication. He came back and actually set a trap, as he should have done hours before. He left it and said they’d get it today, 2/23. I called the office once the squirrel was caught before 5, and was told that everyone clocked out. We had the GREAT PLEASURE (sarcasm) of watching a squirrel suffer in a trap right outside our window for almost 24 hours, because of this companies corrupt morals and miscommunication, and their employee that decided to take the shorter route of doing their job. Dave came Saturday 2/25/24 to get the squirrel that had suffered for almost 24 hours and the very first thing he said was ‘is it dead’ even though I was clearly upset. None of this needed to happen if the initial visit was handled properly, but it wasn’t. By their employees. The moral of my story is I was 100% honest with my choices, what I needed, admitted my faults. The rest is up to how poorly this company is run, and how their employees take it upon themselves to take the easy route. None of their services were properly discussed with us and it, in fact, appeared as though they were consistently avoiding answering questions as I was home when Joseph came back to place the trap and he drove away after it was up without saying a word even though I had a lot of questions about the process. The communication and customer service is atrocious and this could have been avoided if we had been given five minutes to discuss anything that was happening. I will NEVER use this company again.

We had no other choices since this company bought out our previous service provider. They asked us to sign a contract setting up a raccoon trap in the attic. Setting up $219, then the guy put the trap on the backyard. It caught a different animal can't climb up. But we were charged twice for $109 each time if they come by. We called three (not two) time to cancel the services within two weeks and the words never got to the guy in the field and he kept coming and moving the stupid trap around the backyard and each time he charge $109. By the end of the second week, we got over $500 charges for catching nothing. Now after three calls, I still not sure if they actually cancel the services. If you do not call to cancel, they will come every freaking week and charges you weekly forever. What a joke. Just be careful when you sign. Also make sure you cancel on time. I will not recommend them to anyone.

Lucy, <br>Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention regarding the recent service provided by Holper's Pest & Animal Solutions. We understand your dissatisfaction and appreciate the opportunity to address the issues raised.<br><br>Regarding the handling of complaints, it is our standard procedure to communicate directly with the primary contact listed for the service property. In this case, Bill Miller was the designated contact who initiated the service, signed the wildlife agreement, and communicated with us throughout the process. We understand from Bill that you are his ex-wife & the two of you still jointly own the property. While we had no interaction with you during this service, we attempted to reach you to discuss the matter. However, we respect your privacy and understand your decision not to engage in direct communication. It is our understanding from our customer, Bill, that the matter is resolved.<br><br>In response to your review, we would like to clarify several points. Firstly, our customers always have the option to choose their service provider, and we respect their decisions in that regard. Secondly, our agreements are designed to provide clarity on the terms of service, including costs and procedures, to ensure a transparent and satisfactory experience for our customers. They are not a contract.<br><br>Regarding the placement of traps and unintended captures--it's important to note that our trapping methods are designed to effectively target specific animals while minimizing unintended captures. However, wildlife trapping can be unpredictable, and non-target animals may occasionally be captured. Our fees are based on the services provided, including trap monitoring and animal removal, as outlined in the agreement signed by Bill.<br><br>Regarding the cancellation of services, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the miscommunication regarding the trap removal. While our technician missed the note to pull the trap on the scheduled visit, we promptly addressed the issue upon notification and waived the final visit fee as a gesture of goodwill.<br><br>At Holper's Pest & Animal Solutions, we are committed to providing exceptional customer service and resolving any issues that may arise promptly and effectively. We appreciate your feedback and remain dedicated to delivering high-quality services to all our customers.<br><br>Thank you!

Follow up to below: yes, Holpers called but didn't exactly offer the same program as below (I edited this review after they responded). Although I appreciated the company trying to honor a previous loyal customer, the response below seemed disingenuous as the program I used before (and really liked and worked!) was sign up for a year with $100, and $65 per mole caught. They offered that (kind of) but said after the initial laying of traps and catches, that would be it, no year long service. If I had more problems, back to their yearly $1000 service. Safeway was charging way less than they want to charge and sadly nothing to be done except find another company to handle this issue at a reasonable rate that was reasonable as recently as last year. I understand prices can raise, but this is gouging with rates easily 4 x higher. _______ This company bought out a long time favorite, Safeway Pest Control. Last year with Holpers (right after the buyout) we had a mole issue in our yard and they setup traps for $100 and then charged $65 per mole caught. Our problem was solved in a few visits and cost less than $250 for everything. This year, they want $149 for an initial and $75 for a year long contract bringing the total cost to about $1000. The woman on the phone said Safeway was charging too little and this 4x price increase was reasonable. We will be finding another solution and I recommend others do as well. Sad to see when a good company gets sold to a bad one.

Response from Holper's Pest & Animal Solutions STL

Hi Michael, <br><br>Thank you for letting us know about your disappointment with our new mole program. We did reach out to speak with you about it but were not able to connect. We wanted to let you know that Holper's has operated it's mole program for the last 15 years in the exact same way as Safeway's program, i.e. set-up fee and per mole fee as you outlined. <br><br>We're glad you were pleased with our service last year and we were able to catch your mole quickly! However, we must say you are one of our lucky customers because you did not have new mole activity return to your yard. Our new mole program was created due to overwhelming requests from customers for a regular service model with a fixed cost. While we don't want to offer two mole programs at this time, as a previous Safeway customer, we'd be happy to help solve your problem using our previous program structure. Just give the office a call and we'll get that set up for you.<br>We always welcome feedback, so thank you for reaching out!

We scheduled today's visit, with the woman stating it would be a four hour window of 8:00am-12:00pm. I asked if she could narrow it down a bit or make it between 9:00 am -12:00. She was agreeable and pleasant to work with. However the technician never showed up! When I called the office they tell me it was scheduled for 3:00-5:00! We absolutely did not have it scheduled for this time, obviously I canceled and will move on to another company who is reliable!

Response from Holper's Pest & Animal Solutions STL

Apologies for that mix-up. We are new owners and will not let that happen. I hope you'll give us a try again!

Only gave one star rating in order to write a review. Had my house sprayed 1 1/2 weeks ago and after just a few days after noticed carpenter ants. Didn't call then because of the weather. When I called to have them come out to respray, they said they don't guarantee their product. I would have to pay half price. Really. I paid you $100 to get rid of ants and it didn't even work. I call that a racket scam. Never will use your company or recommend them. Hopefully this will warn people of the poor business ethics you practice. Karen Turner

Response from Holper's Pest & Animal Solutions STL

I'm sorry for the issue you encountered. We do guarantee our sprays when they are done on a recurring basis but can't do so with one time sprays, as typically after we spray, it disrupts the pest and you might see more of them in the short term because it takes a week or two for the product to kill the pests. Ants are a separate breed and require a different pesticide be used to control them. I realize this response is overdue but we took over the company recently and the prior owner was not very technology oriented so I'm not sure they monitored this site. If you'd be willing to give us another shot, I'd be happy to ensure your satisfaction. You may call the office and ask for the manager on staff and we'll take care of you. Again, sorry for the delayed response and your experience with the service provided back in 2020.

#1 Unable to follow directions to call me prior to arriving at property because I needed to be present for roof and attic inspection. They claimed I was called but they received a continual busy signal. #2 The inspection was $76 and needed to include a full roof, home and attic inspection. There was no proof the roof was inspected properly as I asked if a ladder was used and it was unknown and the result of the inspection was that there was a possible location on the right side where it might present an opening to critters. Just what side of the roof "Right" was located with respect to facing the home or facing away from the home was unknown. There was no attic inspection because I would have had to let them in the home to access the attic. #3 They offered to have the same technician come back to look in the attic. Now, why would I want someone back at my property who can't follow directions and gave an incomplete inspection report to their office that is not useful to me. I had to be assured the total roof was inspected as well as the attic. I couldn't even tell what "right" side meant or where on the "right" side the technician noticed something that I should be aware of. I didn't receive any of the information they claimed their $76 charge would cover. I will protest paying this bill as service wasn't not provided as stated. I will not be satisfied if I am billed and will contact the BBB if I am billed for this "so called" service. I will also call the roofer that recommended this company and advise them of the reason for my dissatisfaction.

Holpers did get our pest problem under control; however, their customer service was so abhorrent that I had to stop using them. We used them for about two years, and in the last year, they scheduled more appointments incorrectly than they got right. This was particularly problematic because they needed to treat inside my home, and they would reschedule me for days I wasn’t able to be home. The final draw was when their customer service person hung up on me. Holpers, please know that you’re losing clients because your customer service women are incompetent and rude.
