Just had our 2nd application and the weeds in the yard are really under control and the grass is filling in. Rocky did a great job! He explained what he was going to do, answered my questions, and even checked for bugs in the brown spots to see if we had an issue. Very happy with the service and highly recommend!

A Word of Warning for Potential Customers of GreenGate My recent experience GreenGate has shown that not all businesses operate with transparency—especially when it comes to cancellation fees. At first glance, the service contract seemed clear: it stated a $99.00 cancellation fee if I chose to end the agreement early. This seemed reasonable and was a key factor in my decision to sign up. However, when I decided to cancel, I was stunned to receive a bill for over $325.00—more than three times the advertised fee. The company explained that their calculation method is to take the total annual program cost, subtract any payments already made, and charge the remaining balance as a “cancellation fee.” This formula is in the contract; however, it's very confusing and misrepresents what the cancellation fee actually is. When I raised my concerns about the discrepancy, the company’s customer service team offered a series of excuses rather than real solutions. My complaints were dismissed, and I was left feeling ignored and undervalued as a customer. Instead of addressing the issue, they tried to justify their misleading methods, which only deepened my frustration. After several back-and-forth conversations, the company eventually admitted that their contract “could be clearer” about how cancellation fees are calculated. While this acknowledgment was a small relief, it did not change the fact that I was charged much more than what I agreed to. It’s troubling that a business would knowingly keep such important details vague, especially when it comes to customers’ hard-earned money. My experience is a reminder that not all companies are upfront about their policies. Before signing, make sure you know exactly what you’re agreeing to. If they would have explained the "formula" to me, I would not have gone with this company. Go with a company or person who doesn't have a contract - there is a reason they have them and my experience is exactly why. FYI That very nice sounding gentleman that answers the phone? Paid actor - don't be fooled.
Response from GreenGate Turf, Pest, & Irrigation
Hi Cyndie-

We’re sorry to hear that this experience was frustrating, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify for anyone reading this review.

Our bundle service agreement is a 12-month program billed monthly, not a pay-as-you-go service. As clearly stated in the contract, if the agreement is canceled before completion, the customer is responsible for (a) a $99 cancellation fee and (b) payment for any services already rendered but not yet paid for under the monthly billing rate. This is not an additional or hidden fee—it is payment for work that had already been completed as part of the annual program.

In this case, the balance due at cancellation reflected completed treatments that had not yet been fully paid for, plus the agreed-upon $99 cancellation fee. No charges were applied beyond what the signed agreement allows.

That said, we understand how service contracts can feel confusing, and we genuinely strive to explain them clearly during enrollment and again at cancellation. We acknowledged that the wording could always be improved—because transparency matters to us—but we did not apply any charges outside of the signed agreement.

We also want to address the final comment directly: our customer service team members are real, long-term employees who work hard to help our customers every day. Suggesting otherwise is simply untrue and unfair to the people who show up professionally and respectfully for our clients.

We wish you the best moving forward. If you’d like to review your account further, please reach out to us directly.

GreenGate Turf & Pest
(281) 898-5282
Multiple bare spots as in pictures. The lawn mowing crews blow leaves behind the shrubs leaving the soil to have fungus. Called them but recorded messages promising to call back but no calling back. Texted pictures
I used to think this company was doing a good job on my lawn until I went out back and did a close look myself. They've been treating my lawn for a couple of years now. My lawn is thin, patchy and has Virginia Buttonweed and Doveweed. I contacted them and was told it was a watering problem--too much water. We have a sprinkler system. My question is that if it's a watering issue, why wasn't this brought to my attention a long time ago? Why didn't they help me set up what they consider a good watering schedule? Why didn't the technician notice the invasive weeds? Why didn't the technician tell me my lawn was in trouble? Why is it up to me to point these things out to them when I'm paying them to take care of my lawn? I had to pay them extra to send someone to look at my system and to check my sprinkler heads to make sure they are all functioning properly. The next thing was I got a quote for them to "do their magic" on my lawn. It included several steps and treatments. It was all listed in steps. I asked them to break it out for me as to what each step was costing me. They refused. It's either buy it all or buy none. I refused their treatments. To date, no one has contacted me with regard to setting up my watering schedule. Since I didn't agree to buy the treatment package, I guess they decided not to help with my watering schedule. Needless to say, I canceled my service today and I'm now looking for a more attentive lawn business that doesn't rely on me to point out lawn issues and one that is more upfront on their pricing.

Hi Cheryl-

We’re sorry to hear about your disappointment and appreciate you sharing your concerns. Clear communication and proactive care are priorities for us, and we regret that this was not your experience. Your feedback will help us improve, and we wish you the best moving forward.

GreenGate Turf & Pest
(281) 898-5282
Buyer Beware!!! From GreenGate's FAQs: If you’re not completely satisfied, you can cancel anytime. However, early contract terminations will incur a $99 cancellation fee as outlined in our terms. One mowing and one lawn treatment cost me nearly $500.00 due to the two plans I signed up for and their $99.00 cancellation fee per plan. Hope it works out better for you than it did for me.
Response from GreenGate Turf, Pest, & Irrigation
Hi Craig-

We’re sorry to hear about your experience. We do our best to be transparent about our pricing and policies, which is why our cancellation terms are included in the service agreement and in our FAQs. that are part of starting new services. We understand this outcome was frustrating for you, and we’ll be happy to review your account in detail to ensure all charges were correct and see if there’s anything we can do to help. I rarely write reviews, especially negative ones, whenever I have a bad experience at a restaurant or use any service. However, the experience has left a lasting impression and disgusted me, so I need to take the time to write something. I’d like others to avoid my experience if possible. I couldn’t be more disappointed with Green Gate. This has been one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a service or contractor since buying my home 5 years ago. I’ve been a customer for two years. I initially signed up with Greengate to have my lawn mowed once a week. Since then, I’ve had them trim my trees and replace my mulch, and I’ve even signed up for pest control, lawn, aeration fertilization, and an entire lawn bundle. I’ve had gripes about how they would miss entire weeks completely and not cut my lawn or charge me extra for additional hours of workers when they would come to replace my mulch or cut trees. I’ve always been pleasant with their staff and try to be as understanding as possible, even though I felt their services were overly expensive, and I never thought they cared about my property. This experience has been my last straw with this company. I signed up last year to have a lawn bundle with fertilization, aeration, weed control, and consistent lawn mowing. My lawn now looks worse than it did last year almost 12 months ago when I started the program, my lawn is full of weeds with very little actual grass. Even when they come and cut my lawn, it doesn’t even look like it’s been cut at all. I’ve been contacting them, letting them know how disappointed I am, and although they have been pleasant, they have sent out workers and so-called experts who don’t really seem to know what they’re doing and aren't giving me consistent advice. I believe they have come out and said that they’ve sprayed when I haven’t been home or traveling, and they haven’t done anything. I think they literally walk my property and leave. I called them out on this last instance, and even when the field technician came out and saw my lawn, he commented on how bad it looked, how sorry he was, and how he didn’t understand how I had so many weeds and my grass hadn't looked mowed. I’ve been on this program for almost a year and spent so much money with this company on pest control, mosquito control, new mulch, mowing lawn, aeration fertilization, and everything else. The customer service manager even offered to send pictures because she stated it looked better than last year. Still, when she followed up via email, every email contained no before and after photos. The only notes stated that a field tech had visited my property. I’ve terminated the service until I find a service that I’m satisfied with. I’ll be cutting my lawn. I’ve also asked for a complete refund of lawn bundle #3 because I don’t understand how I’ve been paying for almost a year for lawn bundle#3, which has been nearly $200 a month, and my lawn looks worse than it did when I started. I don’t feel I should have to pay for the service. Again, even if I don’t receive a refund, I want to point out that this company is terrible. I’ve never been more dissatisfied with a contractor for a service for my home, and I wish other potential customers would be aware. I am so disheartened by the situation that I plan to file with a Better Business Bureau, spread this message within my community for my neighborhood on Facebook, and repost this in other areas so that people don’t contract with this company.

They are great at growing weeds. I made the mistake of switching from another service thinking, literally, that the grass may be greener on the other side. My lawn turned into a weed farm with their poor service. I not only signed up for their scheduled fertilizer treatments but I made the mistake of also signing up for their super treatment which would transform my lawn. So many weeds and nothing more. I cancelled their super treatment and shortly after their regular treatment after seeing just how terribly their treatment transformed my lawn. I ended up pulling nearly foot long weeds from my lawn shortly thereafter. Upon cancelling my service, I was notified of the $99 cancellation fee they would assess my due to apparently entering into a 12 month contract with them. When I initially engaged them to begin their services, the representative of the company conveniently neglected to mention anything about entering into a contract. One would think that this would be mentioned ahead of time and not simply be a line item at the very bottom of the work order. Of course, the employee who represents their company is somehow no longer with the firm. Conveniently enough I was told that their service would take 12 months in order to see results from their treatments, their words not mine. The previous service didn’t take a year to see results. I can manually sprinkle weed and feed on my lawn and see less weeds and a healthier lawn in less than 12 months. Bear in mind that my lawn was not in bad shape when I switched over to them, now it is. Management’s tactic of passing the blame onto a nameless former employee is a sad way of doing business when they are representatives of your company. I will gladly share my difficult experience with others and advise them to take their business elsewhere.

Very disappointed with this company. I called and asked for a quote for mulching and clean up of my front yard. They sent me a very misleading quote where they charge $69.00 per worker per hour which is already insane. Then, they added $296 for material, labor (again?), pick up and delivery for installation of 3 native brown mulch in beds and another $40.00 for native mulching (what is the actual material previously charged then?). Long story short, they credited my credit card without sending me any explanation of how many hours they were there for and how much product was used. I called twice and they agreed to charge me for only one native mulch, but I did have to pay for everything else. So my total bill will now be $700+ for a small front yard. Will never use them again and do not recommend unless you like having a bad surprise at your account.
We had this company for about 6 months and this is what happened with our yard. I never leave a review but I felt I needed too this time
Response from GreenGate Turf, Pest, & Irrigation
Hi Elisabeth-

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback regarding the condition of your yard, as it allows us to address concerns and continuously improve our lawn care services.

This past summer, we faced the unprecedented challenge of extreme heat, resulting in water restrictions, dry lawns, and an unfortunate chinch bug population surge in our area. When our technicians noticed your lawn had active chinch bugs, complimentary reapplications were scheduled to help minimize any further damage. Chinch bugs reproduce quickly and can cause significant damage in a short amount of time. That damage needs sufficient watering to recover, and the recent water restrictions have made that especially challenging.

On your last service, the technician confirmed the chinch bugs had been eradicated. However, we recognize complete restoration of your lawn may take some time, considering the severity of the infestation and the strict water restrictions in place for the last few months. Still, given the opportunity, we remain committed to your yard's well-being and recovery. Please contact us at your convenience so we can continue getting your lawn back into shape.
Please do not use this company, they use trickery in their pricing. They came out and cleaned up my flowerbeds in the front and back which is not very large. They charged me almost $500 when my invoice quote stated 2 men at $59 an hour per man plus mileage. That is the quote that you get when you request a quote on line. So you would think you would pay about $250 at the most. So can you imagine the shock when you have a withdraw from you bank account in the amount of almost $500. The work they did was good but not $500 good. I repeat only to clean out my flower beds. So use them if you want but be prepared to pay a high cost. Also when I called in to complain about the cost I was told that they would look into it and contact back. A week and a half went by and no one called back. I followed up and they stated the person that I spoke to was out of the office and would call me back. Well they did not, after 3 days I called back and requested to speak with someone that cold handle this issue and they stated that they would not be able to give me a rebate because the invoice stated travel. So apparently it took them 1 1/2 hours to get to my home. I don’t think so… ****BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES***** PRICE TRICKERY****
Bunch of scam artists! I am so beyond frustrated. They charged me over $80 for a service they never came to perform. I call two times this month asking when they would be out because I paid at the beginning of the month. They assured me they would come out and not to worry. Here we are on the last day of the month and no sign of their service. I removed my credit card because they were about to charge me again and called to explain I wanted my service cancelled and a refund for this month since no service was provided. Julia said she would send me an email with the confirmation of refund. I received a generic email stating I would be issued a refund. I called back for the amount, again Julia answered and stated it was for 1/2 of what I paid because the value of 1 treatment is more than the bundle. I will contest with my credit card company and file with bbb. This was never explain prior to signing up nor was it in writing. Give me what is owed to me and I will move on.
