I started this company in 2007 after having been a landscaper for nearly 10 years. When I found gophers in my customers' landscapes I often had to trap them myself because I just couldn't find a reliable local professional that would guarantee results. After a while I got pretty good at trapping gophers, so I began to offer my services to other landscapers and homeowners around the area. We now serve from Petaluma and Napa and all of Contra Costa County, Alameda County, Santa Clara County, Monterey County, Santa Cruz County, San Mateo County, Marin county and San Francisco. We control all types of animals that dig in the garden including gophers, moles, voles, ground squirrels, rats and now yellow jackets. 99% of what we do is organic.

Mike from Smith’s Pest Management was terrific to work with. He was super flexible with our schedule and made everything easy. He found the rat issue right away, fixed the problem, and even helped us set up the right equipment to catch it. What I really appreciated was how patient and courteous he was — he explained everything clearly and made sure we understood what was going on. I would like to call out Joe. He has been out to service my property several times over the last month and half. We have a persistent gopher and mole problem in our neighborhood and Joe has been great at addressing the issues, reviewing different types of solutions and setting traps accordingly. Last week, new gopher activity showed up two days after he had serviced the property. I was able to call him and he came back to access the situation same day and set more traps. Good customer is key and he has been very responsive!

They were easy to schedule, showed up on time, and offered good solutions to my pest problem. Pest control is not super cheap but when you work with a company like this - that gets results quickly - it's worth it. We would call them again 100%. Also wanted to mention they were very thorough and offered helpful advice for ways I could help my home. Just nice, knowledgeable people. Our rep was Mike Koon - would recommend him too!

We used Smith's twice before with excellent results and we were satisfied. This time was the worst. An upfront cost of $209 just to have someone come out to review the property. We went with because of the past experience. The first appointment was completely missed. They had some excuse about their appointment system. The second appointment was almost as bad. I come home from work to meet the contractor but they called and said they had already been by we're on their way home. I insisted that they could not understand the issue without walking the job with me. Under protest he came back. Almost all the gopher activity was coming from our neighbor's yard. I had arranged permission from the neighbor to come into their yard for both appointments. After the walk through the inspector said that a couple of months of trapping should be enough. The proposal that was sent to us was very expensive and a year contact! I said that was enough, so we found another service. No upfront fee and way less per month and no annual contract. One month on and there is no new activity. So we will not be using Smith's ever again.

We also have no annual contract. Our agreements are all month‑to‑month with no early termination fee, so you’re never locked into anything. Dasia Perry was at my property this week and was extremely thorough and professional. She spent at least on hour searching for the gopher tunnels which were complicated by the gravelly soil and was able to set 6 traps. All of the techs who have battled my gophers have been great, but Dasia was exceptional.

I called Smith’s looking to see if they did carpet beetle extermination. The man I spoke with said no but that he could give me the contact of another company that does. He took my phone number and texted me the information. A few hours later the different company called me. They told me that Smith’s had entered my contact info into a database of referrals. I never agreed or consented to giving my phone number out when I spoke to Smith’s. And the company representative never disclosed that he was going to do this. Highly unethical. I will never use this company.

I am a current customer of Smith’s for gopher/mole control. Their service is sporadic at best, and their customer service and follow up is nonexistent. I have been trying to call them all week long. I probably have placed six calls to the office, to the general manager, to the regional manager.. They haven’t ever answered the phone and I’ve not gotten any callbacks. I am supposed to have service every two weeks and I haven’t had it for over a month. I have no idea how they can operate with such poor customer service and never calling the customers back. It just makes no sense to me. it’s not that hard of a thing to call a customer back. But they just don’t seem to get it. I’m at my wits end trying to find out if they just don’t want my business anymore and I’ll just go somewhere els, if that is the case I’ve tried to refer neighbors to them in the past, but they don’t call them back, either It’s not worth the stress!!

They have not solved or even seemingly improved our gopher situation despite using them for several months. If you email them more than half the time they will not even respond, they sometimes answer the phone and if they do they are courteous and promise to follow up, but literally never have. I would be surprised if they were able to fix your gopher issues, they cant be bothered to reply to your email, let alone the work needed to actually fix your gopher problem. They basically just set 2 traps on a large property (not even near the gopher activity, just in an area that was convenient for them to access) and essentially left them there for months but charged me every month. I think they caught one gopher over the last ~6 months, meanwhile our garden is being destroyed and they wont respond to us... Looks like a year or two ago they were managed much better. I'm not sure if it's under new management but you will just waste your money with this company.

ZERO STARS if possible. I was initially scheduled for an inspection on a specific day... the day comes around and the inspector never showed up, not even a call. I was scheduled a 2nd time annnd, no show AGAIN. I get scheduled a 3rd time and at this point, well you get the deal... AGAIN a no show. 3 times I was guaranteed service and 3 times I was left hanging. Unprofessional, disappointing and all of the above. I would never recommend this company to anyone, unless they want to be stood up. Felt like a teen again being stood up by a gf. Ridiculous.

Given all the positive reviews I expected my gopher, mole and vole problem to be solved. Although there were holes and other evidence of activity after 5 weekly visits and $600 only one mole was trapped. I have lost several large shrubs and many other plants. One extra visit was made but no results. Very disappointing for such an expensive service.

Poor customer and job management, does not adhere to terms of contract. I had a first contract with them to come every other week, that was inconsistent. There were critical months where they were no show. Call a few times, office manager Roxanne drafts me with a new contract to make it right for me which I am happy with. Unfortunately, come the time to execute the new contract it was a complete botch for the second time, did not adhere to terms of the contract. I know that there's covid in 2020, but the inconsistency started before covid. The continuing offer is to keep the every other week subscription service even during the gopher hiatus - not very thoughtful. I ended up stopping the service and write off all the invoices.

I think Smith's service model is set up to fail. Under their "care" for 3 years--with escalating pricing--the problem got worse. Smith plays the eco-poseur card of "trapping only," eschewing bait, gas, chemical & sound deterrents. Trapping-only might work if ad-hoc and thorough. But Smith's visits are not when needed, but rather on THEIR schedule of convenience. So you get to watch gophers destroying your yard, plants, garden, and landscaping every day... and Smith will be there a week or two later "on schedule" to place traps (only.) Then, after their visit, the damage continues. Then they finally come back and tout a few "trophy gophers" ...and repeat the process. Is this REALLY set up to work? Or does this create an abusive dependency while catching a few occasional gophers as a sort of theater? Smith service seems to GROOM gophers, not eradicate them. A Smith contract, I am convinced, is a sort-of guaranteed annuity for them forever... unless you fire them. In my case, they fired me for complaining too much; but only AFTER taking those fat checks from me for 6 months during the off season. (Just this speaks volumes about Smith's business approach.) For 3 years our yard has looked like a battlefield, and worse over time. So, free of the "protection" and expense of Smith, I put traps in a few obvious places. But I also put in some noise makers, spread out some castor oil pellets. And most importantly, I put into ALL holes (after trapping, and that I could find) bait blocks. After 2 months of this multi-faceted, if amateur, approach, no more gophers or moles. And even more important: less time / grief complaining about this silly game of the "occasional catch," getting enraged to see the yard going to hell between a visit convenient for them, and all that money going to Smith meanwhile. Gophers don't care about Smith's prissy schedules. And if they get trapped-only on rare occasion for showboating, then new gophers will refill the holes and destroy the yard ad-nauseam. Smith prospers RIGHT ALONG with the gophers: the more they fail, the more that you need their "service." What a business model, eh? I've noticed more Smith trucks on the road. A LOT more. Smith knows what they are doing. Now I do too. I thought you'd like to know.

Called these guys about 5 times, never get a phone call back. I called the number on the back of a white truck I saw in the road driving in front of me, that had your name on it. I also used the number online and received a voice mail saying you are busy and to leave a message or send an email.
