Buyer Beware if You Have Pets I contacted Yellow City Pest Control because I specifically wanted to make sure the products used in my home would be safe for my pets. I was assured that all of their products were pet safe. My home was treated on July 22. That evening, my 8-pound Yorkie became very ill, vomiting and showing neurological symptoms. I immediately contacted an after-hours veterinarian, who advised me to call Pet Poison Helpline. One of the first questions they asked was what chemicals had been used in my home. I pulled up the service receipt that Yellow City had emailed me, but it contained no information about the products or chemicals used. Both Pet Poison Helpline and I attempted to contact Yellow City after hours to obtain that information, but neither of us received a response. The technician who treated my home saw my Yorkie and knew she was inside the house. The following morning, I called Yellow City demanding to know what chemicals had been applied. Despite the urgent situation involving a potentially poisoned dog, no one had returned my after-hours message. The employee I spoke with could not tell me what products had been used and did not have access to the Safety Data Sheets (SDS). She said the owner would call me after he finished another job. Given the circumstances, I insisted that he contact me immediately. When the owner finally called, his primary response was to repeatedly state that they had “never had any issues with pets.” He also insisted that the emailed receipt listed all of the chemicals used. After several minutes of explaining that it did not, I had to take screenshots of my receipt and text them to him before he acknowledged the information was missing. Only then did I finally receive the names of the products that had been applied. After providing that information to Pet Poison Helpline, I was told that Bifen I/T can be highly toxic to dogs if they are exposed and that it can cause gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms. What disappointed me most was not only what happened to my dog, but the company’s lack of urgency and concern. When a pet may have been poisoned, every minute matters. The inability to quickly provide the products used, the missing information on my receipt, and the dismissive response I received made an already frightening situation even worse. If you have pets, I strongly encourage you to ask detailed questions about the products being used, request the product names and Safety Data Sheets before treatment, and make sure you know exactly what is being applied in your home. I hope Yellow City Pest Control takes this incident seriously, better educates its staff about the products they use, and provides customers with complete and accurate information so another family doesn’t have to experience what I did.
