Never used Tuff Turf or will I ever. Just watched one of their inconsiderate pickup and billlboard trailer use my horseshoe drive that comes within 20 feet of my front door as a turn around.

My husband and I was scheduled for a second season of fertilization and weed control services with Tuff Turf. Initially, the prior year's results were satisfactory, resulting in a lush, green lawn. However, this year, we observed the emergence of brown spots, a deviation from the previous season's performance. (Our property is equipped with an underground sprinkler system.) We communicated our concerns to Tuff Turf, as their services were not meeting our expectations. They attributed the issue to an adjustment in the service frequency from 4-6 weeks to 5-7 weeks. This explanation was deemed unacceptable, as the primary objective of their services was to eliminate brown spots and weeds, similar to the prior year's successful outcome. Consequently, we terminated our service agreement with Tuff Turf.

Response from Tuff Turf

Hi Zedda,
I'm sorry to hear that you feel our services aren't hitting your expectations. It's a very rare occurrence and usually something that can be rectified. I could not bring up your account information from your name so I was unable to find any specific information as it pertains to this issue. We are more than happy to have our Quality Manager stop out and assess the situation for you and see if we can come to a resolution. There are a lot of lawn diseases that are active right now given the weather conditions. Just let us know if you would like assistance with that. Thank you!
-The Tuff Turf Team

Not impressed. Hired them because of a Mole issue. They caught one mole and then started removing traps. They told me I had a Vole issue not Mole. I know what Moles damage looks like. They tried selling me a vole program after my $500 mole program expired...which as mentioned they caught one mole. I decided to handle the issue myself...bought 4 traps...Caught 6 the first week and 4 more the second week. The success and failure of their program depends on the tech they send to your property. My first visit it was obvious the tech knew what he was doing. After that it went downhill fast. The 2nd tech did not know what he was doing. He actually told he can't catch any moles on my property, not exactly what you want to hear after paying $500 for the program........Based on ownerships response below it's a clear indication of how bad the tech was I had servicing my property when the mosquito tech the sent did a better job than their highly trained mole specialist....

Response from Tuff Turf

Joel,
Thank you for the feedback on our mole control program. I'm sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the results, it's very uncommon to hear as you can see from other google reviews. In fact, after just running the numbers, we've killed over 4600 moles this year alone. All of our mole technicians are great at what they do and take pride in eliminating moles for our customers, and oddly enough the the first technician was a mosquito technician that was helping out. That being said, I'm glad that you had some success because the bottom line is we want your lawn to be rid of the moles.
-The Tuff Turf Molebusters Team

Things have changed at Tuff Turf. I was a Customer for over 9 years and gladly promoted Tuff Turf when getting positive comments on my lawn. But this year, after receiving a text with an offer of free grub control with signing up for their program, I was bluntly told that offer only applied to new customers. There was nothing in the information I received that said that. I decided it might be time to try another company. When Marc DeGroot of Tuff Turf reached out to find out why I no longer was a Customer and we talked I hoped he would be able to honor my quote I had been given the end if 2024 when the no charge grub treatment conversation occurred. He tried, but the company would not do that and offered a higher contract. Very disappointed in what use to be a great company.

Response from Tuff Turf

Hi Lori,

Thank you for your feedback, and for being with Tuff Turf for many years—we truly appreciate the opportunity we’ve had to care for your lawn.

We don't get many reviews like yours so we do want to say we’re sorry to hear that our recent promotion left you feeling disappointed. Do not use unless you want to waste your money! The program only works during your program time. I called numerous times to discuss the program and they were short with me. Said they would send the manager out to review the program so we could walk my property, they never did. Very disappointed in the outcome. Only a couple of months after the program ended my yard looks the worst it ever has. They also do my lawn service for fertilization so they have been back and didn't acknowledge the issues with my yard. Will be canceling all contracts for the next season. Do your research before hiring.

Response from Tuff Turf

Hello Ann,
Thank you for reviewing our services. All feedback is useful as we use it to make our business even better. Mole control is a tricky thing. Like squirrels or racoons or chipmunks, moles move around and of course multiply on a regular basis. We definitely know our process works, we just never know when they come and go. Thus we offer various programs and extensions that allow our customers to choose what they feel is best for them. Looking at your history it looks like we trapped 7-moles during your scheduled visits. That adds to the over 5500 moles we killed this year alone. I'm sorry we didn't hit your expectations and understand your frustration. We don't believe there is another company out there that can actually count the number of moles they kill each year. Our mole technicians specialize in mole trapping, that's all they do every day. We are sorry to lose your business and wish you all the best.
-The Tuff Turf Molebusters Team

I had this service for 5 or more years and over that time, I had landscape damage, burrowing, and grass damage due to vole activity. I still have dead plantings that need to be pulled but have not due to fear of destruction again. I trusted Mole Busters to protect my property. This year, when I reported vole activity based on my visual confirmation of seeing a vole, I called them and they wanted payment for additional treatments, so I agreed to pay for more treatments. The person who came to treat my property reported seeing a ground squirrel but not a mole/vole even after I pointed them to the burrow near my retaining wall/AC unit. Mole Busters proceeded to try and sell me more services to live trap the squirrel. I then saw the vole again near my AC unit where I originally reported the sighting. I have since cancelled the services.

Response from Tuff Turf

Paul,
Thank you for your review. Even a low rating helps us understand and improve our service. We do not trap for ground squirrels or voles. The only treatment that we provide for the voles is a repellant. There is no way for this to be 100% effective since it is not a poison. We are sorry that we were unable to provide you with the service that is required for your property. We appreciate your past business.
-The Tuff Turf Team

Started service 6/29 but it took them 1/2 month to show up. When they did, they claimed there was no mole activity when in fact there was tons of activity. Then they lost my payment information. I’ve called twice and emailed 3 times with no response. For mole/vole service, I can’t recommend them at all.

Response from Tuff Turf

Eric,
I'm glad that Jeff was able to stop out and meet with you regarding your concern about our service. It's very rare that we get low ratings, but we see it as a chance to get better wherever we can. Although a mole program isn't the solution for you at this time, I'm happy that we will be able to help you with your lawn care needs moving forward.
-Tuff Turf Team

I called to move forward with their mole removal program, and the manager Bill would not speak with me. Instead he had his Sales representative tell me that it is "impossible to contact customers when the technician is on their way to let them know when they will be there." I offered for them to email me, text me, or call me. They said they refuse to contact their customers before they arrive. We work from home and have 3 dogs that will go crazy if they see a random person walking around in the yard. I directly asked "so, you're willing to throw away $500 in business because your technicians can't pick up the phone and notify me when they're on the way to my house?"... They said "yes, it is impossible for us to provide that level of customer service." I am truly baffled by this business decision, but it is theirs to make. Good luck with that business model!

Response from Tuff Turf

Thomas,

I’m very sorry you feel that we’re not able to meet your expectations. Bill was unable to get to the phone at the time of your phone call. We don’t agree with your perception of our customer service. You can see evidence in the hundreds of positive reviews that we have. As you read through our reviews, communication has always been a hallmark of our service and our programs. We get great feedback very frequently on our level of customer service. We contact all of our customers the day before every application via a phone call and an email. Then we always send an after service email to follow up on what we did. Our technicians are also always happy to discuss our service when they are there to service properties. We have never advertised that we call ahead the same day that we are performing the service. We simply don’t ask our technicians to contact customers while on the road and servicing properties. We’re more than happy to give a honk or knock on the door for sure. The fact that we don’t call or text our customers the same day as the application certainly doesn’t mean that our customer service is failing. Our system for communication has worked very well for us over the course of almost 30 years and we look forward to another 30 for sure. No hard feelings on our part, thank you for the review.
-Tuff Turf Molebusters Team
I have not used this company so I cannot speak to the quality of their mole removal program. What I can say, is that I was thoroughly annoyed to the point that I decided to use a different company. I called Tuff Turf Molebusters a week ago and spoke with Chris. He said he would email me a quote and would follow up. I did receive the quote, but it also included pricing to get rid of voles, which I do not have. The estimate was almost $3,000. I got a call from Chris again. I explained the price seemed high to me and I don't want to spend money on voles which I do not have. He brought the price down, which he explained would just cover 8 treatments for the moles. I told him I would think on it and call him back if still interested. Well, today I have gotten my 6th call from Molebusters in less than a week. Chris has left me 4 voicemails. This is ridiculous and I feel harassed. I had to block their number. I hate pushy salesmen. I called Best Way Animal Removal. Spoke with the owner, Jack Waterway. He was very helpful and not pushy at all. They have 30+ years experience and I got a cheaper price too. Someone came out the next day and set mole traps. Glad I didn't go with Molebusters.

Response from Tuff Turf

Hello Ann,
It seemed very ironic that I was reading the following from a current customer email when your review popped up "Thank you very much for taking care of us. My husband and I have been with Tuff Turf Molebusters since their inception and appreciate all the years you have serviced our yard." I certainly want to apologize if you felt our salesperson was being pushy, that is not our style at all. I believe Chris felt that you had high interest and wanted to connect with you before the long Holiday weekend. We will cover this situation at our next weekly training meeting. Have a great Holiday.
-Tuff Turf Molebusters Team

I contacted Tuff Turf in Fall 2017 to assess mole damage to my yard. Even though I had found two moles (one alive, one dead) in the two weeks prior to that appointment, their technician reported that there was not an active mole population. Based on that report, their sales consultant told me that he didn’t believe a mole treatment program was necessary, and in fact strongly argued against it. Instead, I scheduled lawn rolling for the following Spring. The technician that completed the lawn rolling did a great job. However, just a few weeks after completing this service, my yard - once again - showed evidence of an active mole population. This completely destroyed the benefit of the lawn rolling. When I contacted Tuff Turf for an explanation, they told me that, even though they had concluded in the Fall that there was not an active mole population in my yard, moles should have been expected to return in the Spring. No one bothered to share this information with me at any point in time. In fact, they had not only told me that a treatment program was unnecessary, but allowed me to schedule and pay for a service (lawn rolling) that they should have known would be undone shortly after it was completed. Jeff Skully, general manager at Tuff Turf, was very professional. However, he essentially blamed me for not purchasing a treatment program and for scheduling lawn rolling ... even though I had simply followed the recommendations of his employees! He was completely unwilling to offer a refund. Although everyone at Tuff Turf was very easy to work with, they simply were not able to deliver on the promises listed on their website. Their evaluation of the mole population in my yard was inaccurate, they recommended *against* a treatment program despite later telling me that moles should have been expected to return, they sold me a service that they should have known would be undone shortly after it was completed, and - worst of all - blamed me, the customer, for everything that went wrong. My advice? There are other pest control companies. Use them. UPDATE FOLLOWING OWNER RESPONSE 1. “...you are upset that you were willing to pay us for a mole program, but our experienced technician … recommended that you didn’t need to spend that money with us.” If I didn’t need to spend that money, then why did an active population of moles reappear this Spring, just as I predicted when I contacted Tuff Turf in the Fall? I am frustrated, because I have a yard full of moles and the money I spent on lawn rolling was completely wasted. None of this should have happened. 2. “I see you are upset with the interactions of Jeff.” No. All of my exchanges with Jeff were courteous. However, I was disappointed to be blamed when moles reappeared this Spring, simply because I followed the recommendations of Tuff Turf’s experts and did not purchase a treatment program. 3. “We said you “could” see a mole again …” No. According to one of Jeff’s emails: “I have moles in my lawn every spring and by summer the techs have them under control and do not come back until the next spring.” He *expects* to see them in his yard every year. Even so, Tuff Turf told me that I didn’t need a treatment program, and sold me a service that would be undone after the moles returned, on schedule, in the Spring. 4. “We won’t refund the rolling because a mole moved in a couple of weeks after ….” It wasn’t a single mole. *Multiple* runs, distributed throughout my front *and* back yards, suddenly became active again. I was sold a service when it should have been obvious that its beneficial effects would be quickly undone. 5. “The only human that could ever predict the future or control nature is Jesus …” I’m surprised and somewhat offended that you would make such a cavalier reference. Your company’s reputation should stand entirely upon its record of expertise and customer service without making other comparisons. Period.

Response from Tuff Turf

If I understand this correctly, you are upset that you were willing to pay us for a mole program, but our experienced technician that does this all day, every day, didn't see any fresh activity and recommended that you didn't need to spend that money with us. We sent another technician back 2 weeks later to aerate, and there still was no indication of fresh mole activity. You signed up for the rolling in January. The same technician that aerated your lawn also rolled it, and once again, no fresh mole activity. We cannot control nature, nor do we claim or even imply that we can control nature. If a mole moves in a few weeks after your lawn was rolled, and in which you were satisfied, how can we be held responsible for the lawn not remaining flat? We didn't see any fresh mole activity on 10/13/17, nor on 10/27/17, nor on 3/27/18. If a mole(s) returned in April, your lawn didn't have any activity for 6 months from the time you found a dead mole and our technician said you didn't have fresh activity. It sounds like the technician was correct. We didn't say you should "expect" to see a mole again. We said you "could" see a mole again because they come and go like any other animal.

I see you are upset with the interactions of Jeff. I have read through the email correspondences and nowhere do I read that we blamed you for a mole returning. Nobody is to blame for an act of nature. You and Jeff agreed to disagree. We won't refund the rolling because a mole moved in a couple of weeks after the rolling. We are flattered that you think we are good enough to know a mole would move in after 6 months of being gone. We are good, but not that good. The only human that could ever predict the future or control nature is Jesus, and we certainly don’t make the claim to be Him. Even if you were on the mole program, we can’t guarantee that moles won’t move in.
I don’t think we gave you bad advice about not needing the mole program. We saved you money. Our statements might not have been clear enough, so I apologize if you interpreted that we were blaming you. I am glad to hear that you thought everybody else at the company is easy to work with.

Hired Molebusters for this summer after i tried everything in my power to get rid of moles myself for past 3 years. I thought maybe hiring a professional company would solve my mole problem. I was not satisfied with this company. Didn't really see any improvement in the yard with Tuff Turf's service. The same areas that were affected before their treatment are still the problem areas. They send different technicians every time which i really didn't like. Why don't send the same technician to the same yard every time so they can learn the problem areas until the problem is solved. I would not recommend them.
