★★☆☆☆

I have used Rutland Turf Care for 4 years now. At first, they delivered. My lawn went from a dirt patch mess to a decent looking lawn. However, their treatments have changed, or they aren't effective anymore, or something is off, because by the end of last summer (2025) my lawn was back to looking like a dirt patch mess. Because of that, I called them and told them I would not be using their service again this summer. Of course, they ended up dragging this out--when all I wanted to do was cancel--saying they'll come out and take a look and see what they can do to get it back to a good looking lawn. Brandon (think that's his name) sent the manager out to look at the lawn and discuss with me. Didn't offer any solution other than to reseed the bare spots. Keep in mind, over the 4 years I have already spend $450 a pop to reseed and aerate my lawn on two occasions. Still have a dirt mess no. His solution really wasn't a solution at all. I told this manager that I didn't want to pay another $700 this season and end up with the same mess. Said it wasn't his department, but that he would have the office contact me to discuss options so that I don't end up wasting my money. When Brandon called he offered nothing, absolutely nothing other than the seeding of the bare spots and some sort of lime application on the house. Wow, thanks. Don't need your handouts, but don't want to spend $700 to end up with a dirt yard again. If you can't back up your service, fine, don't, but at the very least let me cancel when I try to cancel. Don't drag it out and waste my time in an attempt to get money out of me!

Started serving for lawn fertilizer application with Grub control last 2025 season. Unable to resolved weeds concerns and not happy with services at all levels. Technician not friendly, poor communication and new year 2026 they send me estimates and withdraw first installment in January 2026 immediately from my credit card account without my permission and called three times to customer service for credit since few days and still waiting to get refund in my Credit Card account. Not trustworthy and not recommending for lawn service to whoever looking for better lawn service…

I’ve been hiring a few of the lawn doctors in a box and a small local firm all of which I eventually fired for years. They all had same mentality of spray and leave. They all promised free immediate retreatments but they all just waited until the next service. I forget how I connected up with Rutland but I’m glad I did. This spring my lawn looked meh. A product of last year’s attempt by another company I gave 2 years to get it right. The season was going to be pretty bad I knew bc Grafton instituted a water ban for 2025, Grrrr. I discussed it with Rutland and was mostly concerned that weeds would overrun my yard because unwatered lawns are a haven for weeds. But they assured me they would come anytime weeds got out of control. Needless to say I’ve heard that before! So spring came and without water it flourished and looked AWESOME by Memorial Day. They came the first week of June and fertilized and by the second week it was time to test them out bc I noticed my lawn was striped (just like last year by the other guys). I called and they wanted pictures (reasonable) but said pictures were inconclusive. I was off to Iceland and so they said don’t worry we will come see and fix as needed. While I was in Iceland I got an email and confirmed it was striped (an operator error on the machine likely but poop happens) and they would fix it. OMG when I got back they had come the day after I left for Iceland and refertilized when I got back everything looked much better. By early July it looked great. Of course the July heat made the lawn go dormant in high sun areas in the back yard but I expect that. They came upon every request and put down weed killer, like within 48 hours. Here we are in late October and my lawn has NEVER looked this good. I was reading the very few 1 star reviews and can only say most seem to be from impatient people expecting miracles in days not good work over time. Lawns are a marathon not a sprint. People sometimes don’t give things a chance. You need to be the steward of your lawn, not them. If you don’t call and let them know then they can’t fix it. I can say they did everything they could every time I called. These folks are top notch and really care.

Finding a knowledgeable, reliable and honest fert company is difficult. I've tried many and either the tech doesn't know much, they miss spots because they go too fast or possibly even "ghost" you (leave the bill and skip the service if you're not home. James at Rutland is a gem! He knows what he's doing, is meticulous and always shows up when he's supposed to. After so many years of trying so many other companies that disappoint, I'm extremely happy with Rutland Turf!! Oh, also a shout out to Cocoa McGovern in sales. No BS, she knows her products and services and Rutland has delivered on all of her promises. Thank you!

We had Rutland for all of 2024. Their responsiveness was OK and the weeds in our yard became significantly worse over the year. We “fired” them for 2025 and they sent a tech for a spring service. Saw it on the ring and called to have them cancel, as they were not our provider. Not only did they fertilizer burn our yard, when we refused to pay for the service we never asked for they sent us to collections. Cannot strongly enough caution against working with them. Not great work and apparently quite dishonest. Attached are a few 2024 pictures of what the yard looked like under their care, which I had sent to them to ask for them to correct/address

Awful! Not even worth the phone call. My 3 year old son could do better! $1,200 bucks down the drain. Never again using this company.

A technician from Rutland Turf Care came out same day to take care of a yellow jacket nest in a bush close to our kitchen door. I had already been stung! The technician knew exactly what to do, and the nest was promptly removed. This was a great relief!

I can’t say enough good things about Rutland Turf! Our lawn has NEVER looked better. It’s thick, green, and healthy. Their treatments are personalized to our yard not just a one-size-fits-all approach. I can’t recommend them enough. They even send out people to check on how our lawn is doing with the treatments to see if they should change anything. They make recommendations and suggest products, but there is no high-pressure sales involved. If I say no, that’s it end of conversation I highly recommend them. Hands down the best decision I’ve made!

There was some confusion on my account due to a previous owners fertilization plan. The folks at Rutland were extremely helpful and very professional in helping me quickly resolve the issue. I wish more companies were business pros's like this.

This our first year with Rutland Turf Care. The initial contact was friendly and very helpful in tailoring our needs to our rather larage yard. Their employees show up, do their jobs and leave. My daughter reports that her pet squirrel and bunnies are doing well, and no more tickbites in the family.

This company has mainly done fertilization of my lawn. But they also can do weed control, lawn aeration, and overseeding of the current lawn. My lawn has remained in very good shape and always looks nice. The only problem I have had is with wild violets being somewhat persistent. But as they have been applying a weed control for the wild violets, I have seen a noticeable decrease in the amount of these weed plants in the lawn. Overall, the people who have shown up at my house are courteous, polite, and seem to care about the work they do. I will more than likely continue to use Rutland Turf Care this coming year.

Couldn't be happier with Rutland Turf Care. All of their technicians are well trained. This year we added Pest Control to our services. Try them out, what do you have to lose, other than a great looking lawn.

Rutland Turf has been doing our lawn for about 4 years now and we have had great service. They started doing our mosquito and tick spray as well and spraying around our house to keep the bugs out this year. We would hightly recommend them for others to use their service.

New customer for 2024 and am I ever pleased to have Rutland Turf Care on my team. My yards looks so much better from past years when one of the "big name" lawn care companies did it. The staff/technicians were knowledgeable and courteous. And the yard looks great. My only minor complaint would be that there was no advance notice about visits. I would prefer a notification a few days prior the the application so I could rearrange other activities if necessary.

I’m giving them this rating because they was supposed to fumigate my apartment and I spent 2 1/2 days prepping for it because someone from the office sent over the information to my building management office and I’m in a wheelchair and I had my PCA do most of the work for me and then when he showed up he said that he didn’t come to fumigate he came to inspect so I was 😡 after I had spent time and energy on putting everything in plastic bags I wouldn’t use them again or recommend them

I requested for a single time emergency ant control from here, and this is what I received: "If you have a company coming Monday why contact us? Are you seriouse about hiring a company and bring loyal to them?" It seems like there's a king living in the area, and we have to get their approval before we want to do anything.

So for transparency, I have not used this company. This review is strictly related to the sales call I just had. I called to ask if someone could come out. The person on the phone said they could talk to me about what I needed. I told them that I needed someone that knew what they were doing (obviously) and that I was interested in a company that did not just throw stuff down and move on. I wanted a company that would actually maintain the turf, understand what to do if an area started going south, etc. The guy I talked to did not seem to know a ton of stuff other than the basic - they come out and fertilize and control weeds. I asked him what brands of fertilizer they use and he said "it's all golf course grade". I said great, what are the brands. He could not answer at all. I said I used to use Lesco and he said "oh yeah, that's one of them". I said, great what are some others. He did not know. At that point I said ok, if you don't know what you use I'm all set and hung up. Take it for what it is but if you are looking for something other than someone to come out and do a "scotts" sort of program, these are not the people to do that

Recently hired Rutland turf for lawn maintenance program. Had specific areas of concern I wanted someone to stop by and discuss prior to hiring but was assured I would me good. Should have stuck to my gut and insisted for site visit first. First application they skipped the whole area I was concerned about. Second application they were skipping again until we caught them before Leaving and it was done with attitude. Also done during thunder storm warnings and left note not to water for like 5 hours, and it poured in less then 30 minutes. Called customer support and placed complaint and was told it was not a big deal. Then received call back from sales man that would not come out first and ended up ending my contact with them Edit... The issue is that you would not come onsite to discuss my concerns. I don't feel it was nessacary to say it was a play yard as you did not come look at it You have no idea what there is in there. I was not asking to spray slides ect... As I don't have any. They are all little tykes toys that are moveable. The problem is totally that you would not come discuss what we would or would not have to move and instead just kept skipping that area. As for the rain, you are correct you cannot predict it, but it was literally thunder storm warnings during the application that said don't water. Maybe the tech could have left a note or talked to us as someone was home. So I stand by my review, certainly could have been handled better by you and your customer support. Instead you bash me saying I asked you to spray my kids toys without knowing what was in they playyard as you never came onsite.

Response from Rutland Turf Care & Pest Control

Mr McCumber-

If you are going to bash a small family company, please speak the truth and not leave out inconvenient facts in your tirade. You are 100% right we would not spray kids toys or a kids playset. I have been doing this for over 20 years and I have never seen a parent that literally wants us to spray their kids toys and the area they play in. I am not comfortable with that nor ANY respectable lawn company would be. I wouldn't want my kids toys sprayed with pesticides, and neither should you to be honest.

As for the weather, we cannot predict the weather. As you know, we have been having scattered showers for an entire month now. The good news is, the ONLY thing that is affected by rain would be the weed control and we even protect against that with using a product called a "sticker" that makes the product adhere to the weed surface regardless of moisture. Second to that, we also offer FREE service calls for any weeds which is exactly what the lady in the front office explained to you(all calls are recorded) and all she asked was to give it 5-7 days and we would gladly come back out and reapply the weed control if needed within 24-48 hours if you didn't see them dying off. That is part of our service guarantee

I am truly sorry for your experience with us as we would NEVER want someone to be upset over something like that, but I cannot, in good conscience, spray kids toys, swingset, slide etc. and we want all of our customers to be treated like we would expect someone to treat us.

I am here to discuss further if you would like and would like to smooth anything over in regards to your experience with us as we never want it to be negative. We wish you nothing but the best

Like others have said on here, these people are constantly market calling and I've asked them to stop, but they ignore me. I would have considered them if it wasn't for their arrogance and lack of consideration for people that are on the no call list. By the way, they'll use city/town , MA, and also Rutland Turf as their soliciting caller ID. Here are some examples of the caller ids they may use: "Holliston MA" "Chester MA" "Rutland Turf". FYI if you see any caller id ID's that look similar, don't answer, if its' not them it's some other unscrupulous marketer.

My wife called to have the lawn sprayed for mosquitoes in the fall of 2018, they came and then came about about every 3 weeks and expected payment. I called and cancelled service with Bill. I told him we no longer wanted their service. I cleared up the money that was owed for 2018 and expected them not to come again. In the spring of 2019, I came home from work to a sign in my yard that they had serviced my lawn yet again. I never signed a contract, I called again to have them stop and advised i will not be paying for service I did not request. It has been many months and they still want payment for service i never asked for. I will not be paying. They said they have sent a number of emails to which we have never received. If I could put no stars and post I would have, but google expects at least one star

Like other posts below, they destroyed the lawn of a house i just purchased in Grafton. Was told the property was prepaid for the whole year and they would be back in a few days to fix their mess. She left receipt and work order. 2 weeks later, they have yet to come back and fix their mess even through they were prepaid for the whole year. What awful service, clearly they do not care about their customers there are sooo many landscaping options, choose another. Will make sure everyone in the neighborhood is aware of their awful service THEY STOLE HER MONEY!! DO NOT USE!!!

Perhaps I might have done business with this company, but I never will now. Received an unsolicited call and voice mail on my mobile phone from them today. Not only is my number on the National Do Not Call list, but I have never done business with this company in the past. It makes them no different than robocall scammers.

Response from Rutland Turf Care & Pest Control

Mark we apologize that you received an unwanted phone call. We have been in business for over 60 years and our customer lists can occasionally have older customer numbers that may now be restricted.
