Customer reviews for Lawn Doctor of Northwest San Antonio and Hollywood Park-Shavano
Scott Walters
I requested to have my lawn aerated by the 5th of March (I explained that I had knee surgery scheduled for the 6th), so I contacted them a few weeks prior to make sure we had time. They said no problem. Well, they didn't contact me until March 19th, two weeks after the deadline. Tired of companies that don't do what they say they are going to do. Someone from Lawn Doctor called to apologize so I bumped them from 2 stars to 3.
Provider response
Thank you for your review, Scott Walters. Lawn Doctor of Northwest San Antonio and Hollywood Park-Shavano takes feedback seriously. We’ll continue striving to do better.

Darlene at Lawn Doctor has always been very helpful and friendly as well as the technicians that come out. I am always informed when LD will be out, what they are servicing so that I am aware. Hurray for Lawn Doctor! I finally found a GREAT Lawn Care Company! Here are the reasons that I LOVE Lawn Doctor. 1. Lawn Doctor comes out to my rural area in Terlton, OK 2. No contract is required 3. Their pricing is very reasonable and affordable 4. They offer free call backs if a particular servicing needs additional help 5. They Answer the phone and will talk to you! 6. My yard has never looked better, and it will not only contiinue looking better. 7. My time and additional money is no longer needed trying to do what they can do in 10 monthly short service visits so much better than I can do by myself. They are actually SAVING ME MONEY and freeing my time. 8. What would or could take me days to accomplish they can do in one short visit and they have been able to guide me about other plant issues that arose this past spring due to the long and heavy rains we experienced in 2025. 9. Both my Apple and Pear trees bore bumper crops which has been a dream and is due to the offshoot of my garden remaining mostly weed free and better fed. I attribute that to the fact the garden gets rain runoff from the lawn due to their care too!
Provider response
Wow! Thank you for the kind words. Employees and customers always come first.

Richard Atwood
Just started service with Lawn Doctor. Service tech. Gabriel was very helpful in evaluating my lawn and getting a plan of action. Nothing with lawns is instant but next spring I should be all smiles.
Provider response
Thank you for your kind words. Gabriel is a great technician and we're lucky to have him! We look forward to a great partnership.
Michael Bell
Lawn Doctor of Northwest San Antonio provided excellent service for our lawn needs - weeds and fertilizer - with on-time, knowledgeable, and friendly technicians. Highly recommend...
Provider response
Michael, I am so happy that you are pleased with our services. We hope to be treating your lawn for years to come. Thank you.
Kimberly Culp
I was skeptical at first, but I'm so glad I took a leap of faith. My lawn had a ton of weeds in it and now there's one or two I'll see every once in a while. My grass is pretty and soft. I am happy to walk around with bare feet and play with my dogs without worrying about weeds. I'm going to be a forever customer with Lawn Doctor!!
Provider response
So happy to hear this, Kimberly! We totally get how awesome it is to run around a thick lawn with our pups as well! It can be a process here for sure; but we are so thankful you took the leap of faith as well. We are so appreciative for people like you to work with on the health of their lawn and that spread the word like you. So, thank YOU!

My lawn was recently treated by Rico from Lawn Dr NW San Antonio location. His professional approach to multiple tasks to include weed & grub control and mosquito prevention was very thorough. I truly appreciated him taking time to inspect lawn as he worked to identify and treat observations he noticed. Before departing, he provided a simple explanation of services he performed and noted specific areas he gave extra attention. I've used this Lawn Dr location since 2022 and I'm beyond impressed on how well my lawn looks. I highly recommend their services and Rico.
Provider response
Randy! Thank you so much. We love to hear this type of feedback and feel so very thankful and fortunate to have Rico on our team. We also appreciate YOU for being a loyal and kind customer the past few years.

Although we did not end up with the result that we wanted, I would say that the Lawn Doctor was a good experience overall. The people are the best part of Lawn Doctor. They communicated with us and kept us informed throughout the process. Any question that I had, they were able to answer. In addition, being to cancel at any time is awesome. Unfortunately, the weed situation for us never got better. Our next door neighbor used Lawn Doctor and had great results. We were hoping for the same.
Provider response
Thank you for the positive feedback on our team, Peter. We are so happy to hear how impressed you were with the professionalism of our team members. We are sad to hear that the weeds did not decline in the timeline as expected though. We are confident if given the chance to have a little more time your lawn would look as great as your neighbors, that is a big reason why we do not lock anyone into a contract. We are confident that in most cases, we are able to get the results our customers are looking for - even with our crazy hot weather, water restrictions and drought conditions. We would be happy to have you back with us to prove that to you at any time!
Bill Powers

Felix Rodriguez
Ally, Carol, Bud and Angel are the best. The best part is them working together with me to help me achieve the best lawn in the neighborhood. Answer all my questions and are very attention to detail. If you need a honest value company please give them a call and let them know I sent you 😊
Provider response
Thanks, Felix! It is always a pleasure speaking with and working with you! Here's to a beautiful, green lawn!!

Aly and team are absolutely amazing. Family run and they take care of your every need. So much so that they even come out to your house to make sure everything is growing appropriately. Highly highly highly recommend

Suzzie Thomas
Taking great care of our yard by keeping the weeds in check. Good communication.
Brian Roberts
After much of year, I didn't see any improvement in my lawn. I would give 1 star for that but the Lawn Doctor did help control most of my weeds.
S & D R
Mel Morgan and team have been super-reliable over the 2 years, or so, we have signed on to their service, and, what is great for the homeowner is that they keep a sharp eye on the weather and advise a change appointment is required if rain is expected on the day they plan to apply weed control, thereby avoiding an application that would be wasted on wet grass. That’s pretty good service. We don’t think you could find any better!

This company ruined my lawn and refuses to refund my money. The owner doesn't care about customer satisfaction or standing by the work they perform. The owner is rude and uncompromising. I was told during the initial consultation that I would see a difference after two treatments which I certainly did as the lawn is completely brown/Black. They are dishonest and shoddy. I would recommend choosing a company who strives to honor their promises. I should have gotten some weed and seed from Lowes and gotten better results for less than $60. Instead I spent over $250 for this company to kill my lawn.
Provider response
Not only did your wife follow through with her threat but she convinced you to team up with her to hit me with 2 unwarranted reviews. I will offer the same response I provided your wife: My e-mail to your wife. I am grateful to the 'reasonableness' of those in the digital world who can differentiate a true review from one born from extortion. My e-mail to your wife below should say enough: Mrs. Stone, I am the owner, Patrick Lix, and I’d like to respond to your assertions. 1. Proof of notification is evidenced by our master phone, the app we use and our software. Every communication and the communication channel is well documented. If you received an additional notification from Edward 20 minutes in advance of his arrival, then it makes sense to me that you would have declined at that time but you didn’t. 2. If your lawn is dead, we didn’t kill it. There is nothing we use to kill a lawn and if on any day it was treated, and damage occurred the entire day of customers treated would also be claiming the same thing. We have not had a single customer with the same claim, and we have a lot of customers in the Castroville (meant Converse) area that would have been treated on the same day. 3. You will not receive a refund. It is likely your lawn was full of winter weeds and we killed them. Rescuegrass, Poa Annua and others are typical late winter, early spring weeds and they look like grass. If nothing was done for the lawn in the fall or those treatments were performed with the wrong product or a lesser amount then winter grassy weed prevention was ineffective. We are locally owned business. This makes us different and frankly, better than the big national brands in the market. Why? Because our technicians know what they are doing. They have a year or more of experience and training, not just a week or two. We can use products that work at rates that are effective because we don’t have someone at a corporate office telling us what or how much to use. Both my Operations Manager and I have over 50 years of experience in the industry and that experience translates to minimal errors in delivery and no errors in product use. We did not kill your lawn and no one would have told you two treatments gets the job done. If that was the case we would perform just those two treatments each year for customers at a much higher rate. Instead, we’ve found it takes about 9 visits annually to improve and keep a lawn looking its best. With that said, it also takes work from our customers to properly mow and water their lawn to get the most out of each treatment. Finally, I don’t appreciate being threatened with a bad review. We work hard, hire great people, have the experience and dedication our customers expect. We have countless customers tell us how they couldn’t believe we actually turned their lawn around when they had been trying for years. Your opinion regarding the service provided is incredibly misguided and is not based in basic knowledge of agronomy or even simple gardening. To expect a lawn in need to turn around in just a couple of months, when it likely experienced neglect for a longer period of time defies common sense. I wish you luck in with future service vendors but I choose to sever our arrangement now and in the future. Respectfully, Patrick Lix

Do not use this company! My lawn is completely dead after three treatments which totaled about $250. We were not home when the technician showed up for the third application (we were not provided adequate notice of the service) so we did not unlock our back gate. The technician did the front and charged us full price. When asked for a refund as our lawn looks worse than when we first contacted them we were denied in a very rude manner. The service was expensive, abysmal and the owner was extremely impolite when I expressed dissatisfaction with the service.
Provider response
As you promised you sent in a review but only after you threatened to do so if we did not refund the entire year of services provided. Below is the communication between us and I'll let the digital world decide who has been 'reasonable' throughout our exchange. Destroyed my lawn and the MANAGER’S!! proposed solution, “keep fertilizing”. That’s it. Terrible. Before Lawn Doctor and after Lawn Doctor speaks for itself.
Provider response
I am unsure of the reason for your review. Your last technician who treated your lawn on 2/29 is very, very good at what he does. During his last visit he identified the lawn as one in good condition. We also visit properties requesting to cancel to see what happened. That visit had the same outcome: The lawn is/was in good condition.

At no time did we propose additional fertilizer to solve a problem. In fact, we are very wary of applying too much in order to limit disease risks unlike most if not all of our competitors.

You see, we have what we call condition codes. These codes are used to update us on progress made but to also have intelligent discussions about the needs of the lawn. We share these needs through respective notes explaining said needs.

I hate that you felt compelled to catch our attention through this venue because we work hard with our customers to meet their level of satisfaction. This could have been remedied with a simple phone call especially considering your turf looked good.

Lastly, the only issue we could identify is minimal turf in shaded areas. Since shade is a growth deterrent we don't find this unusual since we cannot affect the laws of nature. If that was the issue then yes, we should have been better communicating this issue and we apologize.

I am happy to resolve your issue at no charge if allowed.

Respectfully,

Patrick

I strongly advise against hiring this company. Despite engaging their services for weed control on two separate properties, both remain heavily overrun with weeds. Their performance has been severely lacking, and I cannot in good conscience recommend them to others.
Provider response
Hello AG, Thank you for your feedback. After careful review of your accounts, I have found that we performed one treatment on each property on March 1st and one follow-up on one of the properties. Clearly, we failed to communicate the right expectations for your lawns. In no way can we or any other lawn care provider kill all winter and early spring weeds in a single treatment. Most of these weed types germinate from August through November and require treatment in advance of this germination period. The work we perform in the winter and early spring is to not only target existing broadleaf weeds but to also prevent summer grassy weeds. Broadleaf weeds are not preventable. They have to be addressed with each treatment. Since broadleaf weed control is a growth disrupter it requires some form of growth to occur. Fully grown weeds will be largely unaffected by treatments because they can longer grow. No growth = no disruption = no kill. For this reason, we ask our customers to mow at times of the year it may seem a strange ask but mowing stimulates growth which allows our weed control to work better and more quickly. As for our professionalism, I consider that one of our strengths. We are a locally owned company. We answer the phones, emails and texts very timely and we show up when we say we will. My staff is dedicated to each customer and is quite knowledgeable. It disappoints me that we failed to communicate proper expectations in your individual case. I can assure you, of the choices available in the local market, no single company can outperform Lawn Doctor. I am a 30 year veteran of the industry. I know what works. I know how long it takes and I know how to turn a lawn into a showcase. All of this takes a year (in dire cases longer) so the full cycle of treatments can be performed. We are happy to re-treat at no charge in cases just like yours. By working together we can certainly accomplish more. Again, thank you for your feedback. Patrick Lix Owner

Lawn looks terrible. I'm aware that watering restrictions has a lot to do with this, (stage 2), but with all the money I spent, the only good thing was that you did cut down on mosquitoes.
Provider response
Thank you for your feedback Mr. Malouin. Lawns during a dry and very hot season like the one we experienced this year can be very difficult for turf to thrive. This summer, like any summer, we evaluate the lawn before providing treatment and modify our fertilizer rates where moisture is inadequate. This limits health risks and keeps the turf alive. When so very hot, you will see turf begin to brown much the same way it can over a cold winter. This happens as a means of survival and causes some to view their lawn as dead when it is really just dormant. They in turn, stop watering altogether because they think it is dead and it creates an unrecoverable situation. We are very sorry you felt compelled to give us a 1.0 star rating. We are a private and locally owned company and we take our performance with customers very, very seriously. Thank you, Patrick (Owner)

You should not be listed as a lawn care service if you do not do mowing... you are a landscaping company.
Jay Carver
I was very disappointed with the Lawn Doctor. I found them to be non responsive and could not even provide me with a schedule or a plan for treatment of my lawn. The quality of the service was poor. I saw no benefit from their services. When I inquired about any of this, their was no solution offered. Don’t waste your money.
James Clark
Since i don't have a lawn and haven't for years, i really can't help. I did have the yard sprayed to kill grass and weeds, in the alley, the driveway, brickwalks and the side of the house. Most are still thriving and i am waiting for them to be sprayed again. . .
