These guys were good, they had all the equipment needed for this service- crane, bucket trucks, multiple guys. Efficiently got the trees down and taken away. While they were moving a bucket truck over my sidewalk, that truck's weight broke a few sections of concrete. They repaired what had been broken in under two weeks and reseeded the lawn areas that were also destroyed by the concrete repair work. No arguing, just honest action. Oh, and the high-level tree trimming that I wanted was done fast and to my satisfaction. Very professional team. I highly recommend them.

Very difficult to schedule an appointment. They eventually came out and treated my tree and I was NOT notified. I called to see when they were coming out and was told they already did. I had questions and was charged a service again for next Spring 2026. I told them I may not live here or this tree will die. I am still waiting for my refund. I would not recommend them. Their customer service was terrible.

The tree crews are very efficient & knowledgeable. They thinned out and elevated the Oaks & Sweet Gum trees in our rec center. The finished cuts were flawless Shigo cuts as per arboricultural standards. I can always tell if trees are tended to by pros. Their work left no doubts.

We had tree trimming completed last week. What a beautiful job!!! I was called when they arrived as they wanted to reconfirm what was agreed upon. We had two sections (front and rear of house) quoted and Brian would call as each was completed to make sure everything looked as we wanted it to. I highly recommend, and will use them again!!

I love when businesses actually leave me pleased with their service, enough so that I would definitely use them again. I was impressed from the interaction at the estimate (fair) given by Joe himself, to then his crew and their attention to detail. Properly angled branch cuts and everything. It matters! No gaping holes anywhere in sight. It’s all connected to the whole in the end. Like many things in life. Jon, Kyle and Ronaldo - he was the brave one up in the branches - all communicated well with me and listened, resulting in an aesthetically-pleasing result overall. Seriously, my trees looked so much more attractive post trimming than many of the others in my neighborhood. Not everyone is as competent. Know I am a gardener and rather picky. Cleanup was as you would expect with such a big job and stuff flying all over the place. They did a decent job though. You must be realistic and accept that you will always find a few items here and there to still pick up. Finally, knowing what you’re doing and being good at it makes all the difference in both the short- and the long term.

They are all very friendly, responsible working groups and very professional in the cutting of trees and the trimer.

I would highly recommend this company to anyone who was having issues with their trees. The process was very simple estimate was quick and competitive the work was done professionally on time and when they left, my property was spotless. I was so impressed that I’m having them come out to give me an estimate for some landscaping. In total, it was an excellent experience and I would recommend their services to anyone

McIlvaine Tree Service is an outstanding company. They are quick to come out for estimates and quick to get you into their schedule. They have been flexible with me when needed and always show on their scheduled days for services. I would absolutely recommend them to all for any tree or lawn needs.

Had some trees staked in rear yard, but done very poorly. Repeatedly asked for someone to come fix them. Company says that people were out to look at them, but still not done to my satisfaction. They also conveniently came out to "look" at them when no one was home as well as not show up for a scheduled appointment . Specific dates and times were requested, but couldn't be provided. Person who I spoke with who handles billing and also is the manager was rude and condescending. Stakes were asked to be removed, but they said they wouldn't do that claiming I wanted the work done for free which wouldn't make sense since I was asking for the stakes to be removed. Would never do business with this company again! Beware of poor service!

For some reason they had to come out 3 times for a quote on the same work. I received a quote for several things to be done. Ironically, a storm decided to take down a tree for us and we did the clean up. They came out again, it was less work and this was quote was double! I asked for an explanation and the receptionist basically blew me off. I explained my tree that was to be thinned didn’t change and grow 50 feet within a month. I asked for a return call from someone who could actually explain why it was so much more than the original quote with much more work. No return call. Very poor business practice to say the least and I had actually referred this company. You just lost business. Get your work ethic in check.

Didn't show up for the estimate, didn't call to say they weren't coming or would be late. I agreed to let the estimator come later, and they called to try and push back the time even later.

STAY AWAY! Be ware!!!!! This company is just in it to make money off of you. They are only nice when it is convenient for them. The president Josephine is rude if you request to speak to her. The receptionist only knows how to route calls. If you have a problem of any kind, she will give you a nasty attitude also. The big heavy tractor machines the company uses, the tires dug into my driveway DEEP and damaged my driveway severely. It’s been a hassle trying to get them to fix it. It’s been weeks and they still rather argue with me and defend their staff. They will take your money and guarantee good work but the work is average and over priced. Worthless if they’re damaging your, driveway, plants and grass. They’re cool and nice to you when you’re paying them or you have no issues, they turn into rude angry disgusting unprofessional‘s whenever you ask them to fix a problem they created. You’ve been warned!!!!!!

FYI - I cannot comment on anything besides pricing because i did NOT accept the quote, but I am leaving a review because i found it insulting. I have been quoted by 5 companies and Joe's was 300+% over the next highest. Two of my trees were quoted at $4500 that others ball-parked $900. I'm not sure what the point of coming out here was aside from a $12500, 3-tree hail mary estimate. It's possible they have competitive pricing when they WANT the job, or it's possible my estimator was new to the job... or maybe he was at the wrong house.

They cancelled my appointment.

Initial call for estimate request made last week of June 2020, which was caused by June 3rd storm. Got estimate few days later and setup appointment for first week of August 2020. Did not mind the long wait due to positive reviews here. A day before the appointment, they called and had to cancel due to emergencies from storms yesterday. Did not agree with this as we waited, in queue, for 6 weeks, only to be canceled a day before the appointment. I understand emergencies, but our appointment was caused by weather damage too, and waited patiently for 6 weeks to have our tree taken care of, which may cause more issue and possible damage on my neighbors if storms hits us again. When asked on next schedule, they will give me a call again once they have a schedule. This is very unprofessional, especially treating a new customer, who was willing to wait this long, only to be cancelled on the last minute. Would not recommend this business due to their unprofessional work practices.

I called McIlvaine tree service to see if they could remove a dying Ash from my back yard. Joe (the owner) came out within a few days of my request to provide an estimate. Based on the placement of my tree, he informed me I would need a 38 ton crane to remove the tree. I agreed, as a previous company I had out to remove the tree only brought a 28 ton crane and could not do the job. Furthermore, because I am in the Military and was deploying shortly, I asked if they could get to the job pretty quickly. Joe told me that was no problem. However, the day his crew showed up to complete the job, they informed me that it would be impossible to complete. Joe had not ordered the 38 ton crane as he said he would, he ordered a smaller one. The crew told me that the job could not be completed and that the office would contact me within 24 hours. Three weeks later, I had to call the office to find out the status of my job. I was told on the phone that my job had been "canceled." I asked who canceled it, because I had not called to cancel. After some back and forth they could not tell me who canceled it and they could not tell me if/when the job would be completed. They told me they would get back to me later in the day with some answers. 48 hours later I had not heard from them. I called back again and asked to speak to Joe himself. I was told that he was out of the office and they would ask him to call me. This was three days before my scheduled deployment date. I called the next day and asked to speak with him and received the same answer. Finally, the day I was scheduled to depart I called one last time and the office promised me I would hear from him before 5pm. As I write this review, it is three weeks after that last phone call and I never heard from Joe or their office. Every review you read online is accurate. Joe McIlvane Tree doesn't give a damn about customer service, punctuality, or doing whats right. They are a big player in the tree removal world and only care about the big jobs that are going to make them the most money. Avoid them at all costs unless you want to be treated like just another person waiting in line at a DMV. VETERANS AND MILITARY - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!
