Justin and his team recently helped us with cleaning out some overgrown garden beds and areas around our house, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the quality of their work! The team was so careful and thorough, and the newly cleaned spaces look awesome. I’m excited to work with Justin again next season to figure out what we’ll plant in these beds!!

I have hired full service landscapers for over ten years. But every year, by June, the garden beds are over run with weeds and looked awful. When I ask why..I was told the workers are afraid to touch anything because they don't know what is a weed vs a plant. I contacted Justin at JMJ and he came out to look at the situation and I was immediately impressed that he could identify, by name, my keeper plants and those pesky weeds. I hired his crew to bring my front yard gardens back under control. They did a fantastic job. I had loads of horsetail that nobody could get rid of and so far after a month since they came out it has yet to reappear. I would highly recommend JMJ for your landscape needs.

JMJ Gardens did a fantastic job revitalizing our front and backyard! Justin Jewett was friendly, professional, and easy to work with from the start. He helped us plan out new gardens, fresh mulch, trimmed bushes, pea stone, and more. Despite rainy weather, his crew showed up, worked hard, and returned the next day to finish the job beautifully—just in time for a big backyard party. They left everything spotless and looking amazing. Communication was excellent the entire way through. We’ll definitely be calling JMJ Gardens again. Highly recommend!

We built a new custom home and needed full lawn installation. We met with close to a dozen different landscapers, all of whom heavily discouraged us from clover blend lawns. They all pushed the same thing including irrigation systems. By the time we spoke to Justin, I had stopped asking. Much to my surprise and delight, he listened to our needs and proactively suggested the harmony of a clover blend lawn and how it reduces the need for irrigation as well. We were on a tight timeline with the building department, and Justin and team were extremely accommodating. They went above and beyond putting in work outside expected hours. The work itself was highly attentive to detail and quality and produced an impeccable result. All of our neighbors have commented on it. We then hired him for plantings, and he has been extremely consultative, providing suggestions for as many local pollinators as possible, and never hesitating to give us guidance on what will and won’t work and offering suggestions for how we can phase or otherwise modify plans to get more for our budget. He has checked in with us multiple times post install to make sure everything is on track. I highly recommend JMJ Gardens. They were exactly the experience we were hoping for and I will hire them again for any landscaping needs we have.

Provider response

Hi Dayna,
Thank you so much for sharing such kind words.
Working with you to regrade the property and install a native grass lawn and plantings that reflect your vision—while supporting sustainability and pollinators—was a gratifying process.
Designing with the environment in mind to reestablish the space, while helping recreate your home’s landscape, made the process a pleasure from start to finish. I’m excited to see it continue to grow and look forward to being part of the next phases.

We hired JMJ Gardens to remove existing weeds, dig out invasive root systems, and weed whack parking lot weeds for a multi-unit property. They showed up to the property the day before the planned date without notice, and only weed whacked the parking lot weeds. They did not remove the existing weeds entirely or dig out existing root systems. The day after they did the work (which was the scheduled date), Justin texted saying that the existing area was infested with poison ivy and that once we are ready to replant the area and mulch, then they will be able to return to clean up the poison ivy roots properly. When we asked him to take pictures of the that work was done, he said he forgot to, when in actuality the work was done a day before. Given the dishonesty, we decided not to move forward with the 2nd estimate for mulching and requested that they finish the scope of work from this estimate. Justin refused to do so under the current estimate, stating he would have to charge more money at $110/hour to finish the scope of work that was part of the original estimate. After we expressed dissatisfaction with the work and pointed out that he did not complete the work as stated in estimate, he sent us a revised invoice, taking off the scope of work that was incomplete - which is why this review is 2 stars instead of 1. Although JMJ Gardens markets that they only charge $50/hr on Thumbtack, he charged us $110/hour. They also charged us a fee of $60 for debris removal of one full ton truck when our debris filled less than half, since no roots were removed.

Provider response

Thanks for the feedback. I’m sorry to hear you were unhappy with how things turned out.

A few things I want to clarify: our crew came a day early because we had an opening, and your Thumbtack profile noted that no one needed to be home during service. Still, we should’ve given you a heads-up!

Once on-site, we discovered a very significant poison ivy infestation that was not at all mentioned during the estimate. My team member began clearing it but wasn’t able to handle the remaining debris due to a serious allergy (which would cause him to break out in hives and possible suffocation).

I followed up the next day to explain that I would personally return to handle the root removal safely once the foliage had properly dried.
The poisonous oil- urushiol oil is present in the leaves, stems and root system.
This is still active and could cause a reaction, even after the plant has been killed.
As well, I did explain this was covered in the stated invoice, with no additional charges.

The $110/hr rate mentioned was for two experienced gardeners — not per person — and that was communicated before offering any extra work beyond the original estimate. Despite the miscommunication and change in scope, I revised your invoice and generously charged only half the original amount to reflect the work completed.
I also spent over an hour on multiple phone calls during the project to offer guidance and updates, and another hour more recently trying to ensure you walked away with a positive experience — even after you decided not to move forward with the next phase of work.

As for the $60 disposal fee, that covers the base rate for hauling and site drop-off — it’s not calculated by how full the truck is.
We put a lot of care and effort into what we do and always aim to treat clients with respect. I wish you the best with the rest of your landscaping plans.
