Kathryn Carr
I have recommended lawn doctor to our neighbor/friends because they are great with our lawn care. The technicians are professional and always clean up the driveway and sidewalks after they finish laying seed or weed control products. They respond and comment on what our lawn needs and I feel like they are a good value. Our lawn looks great each year!

We had a bad fungus so Lawn Doctor recommended we kill our awful looking lawn. They then seeded the lawn. The result is the most beautiful lawn we have ever had. Actually, it doesn’t even look real it’s so perfect! Friends and neighbors compliment us now! Thank you, Lawn Dr.!

There are so many other options out there.... Don't settle for these guys, just trust me. I'll be adding pictures to this review as well, as pictures are worth a thousand words. We began working with lawn doctor in spring of this year (2025) and the entire year we had the worst grass I've ever seen. We also have multiple plants that have died. To be fair We called them because our grass was bad, so they didn't cause it but they certainly did not help it despite a seasons worth of work. When I called half way through this season to ask why things looked so bad I was told it was because I did not heed their advice...that I requested power seeding be done in the spring rather than the fall. They never recommend a spring seeding because of these issues. That is false. Completely untrue. As someone who knows exactly nothing about grass and only wanted a healthy looking yard, I would never push back against a recommendation from an expert. So inevitably the fragile grass that was growing became completely overrun with weeds. The second half of the summer our grass looked just as bad as when they came in the spring. Then they had to kill the weeds, so a large portion of our yard is now completely dead. After a summers worth of waking my butt up every morning to water the grass multiple times throughout the day, we're effectively right back to where we started. And apparently all because I asked them to do the work at a time.of the year they would never recommend 🙄 We also had them do work in our garden beds (which, also in fairness, is not their specialty. they're grass people). The beds looked good, weeds were taken care of very well. kudos. But unfortunately a number of our plants have been killed (pictures incoming). These are all plants that survived two seasons but died this season for some reason... Correlation or causation? Who knows. I could keep going and may when I upload my photos.

Drew
Thank you for your feedback.
I understand that this process was frustrating.

We know that starting where you did when we first evaluated your property last September -with severe chinchbug infestation and with the large area of the wrong grass type in your lawn- is difficult. I also note that from the emails, phone conversations and texts we had with you this past Spring, you expressed a sense of urgency and you said to Dan “I can’t look at it this way all year.”

We do 30-40 rehabs of this type per year and we know that it is an involved process that will take time.

In 2025, we have done 33 August/September Lawn Renovation “Rehabs” with Power seeding and 51 total September Power seedings for sunny areas.

In the spring of 2025, we did ONE Lawn Renovation “Rehab” with Power seeding of a sunny area- and that was yours.

We wish that we had shortcuts or a quicker way, but unfortunately short of sodding (which Dan discussed was 2-3x the cost), there is no shortcut to getting baby grass to grow, thrive and reach maturity.

We try very hard to set clear expectations. Anyone who has ever talked on the phone with me knows that I say the phrase “I want to be clear about expectations” multiple times and I will frequently talk homeowners OUT of spending money rather than talking them into it. We would never want to rush you into anything and if we did not set clear enough expectations, I apologize.

We had a lot of emails and texts back and forth, but the Rehab agreement email included the details of the project, along with clear expectations and care needed. In reviewing those texts, emails and phone call recordings, I note that we included the following information about expectations:

“It will take 2 full growing seasons for baby grass to become mature.”

“Weeds may be an issue with newly seeded areas. Notify us if you have concerns. No weed control should be used in the seeded area from 10 days prior to seeding through full germination. (For Spring seeding, Crabgrass prevention/Pre-emergent will prevent seed germination for 3-4 months. It should not be used before or after seeding until grass is fully germinated.) If we are taking care of fertilization & weed control for you, we will make these modifications in your program. (For spring seeding, weeds and crabgrass may be an issue this year).”

As far as the plant damage- I wish that you had made us aware of this at the time it happened. September 15th, 2025 was the first that we had heard of any concerns with plant damage. We are very responsive. If there are issues with plants dying in landscape beds, we always get out right away to assess. If it was something that was sprayed in error, we replace it. In some cases, we have suspected insect or fungal damage and have sent off samples to the Illinois plant clinic for verification and best treatment. When we are not aware of a concern, we cannot address it.

As I said in my email to you, we did hear that you expressed a loss of trust in our expertise. We offered to work with you to help with the lawn and landscape bed concerns (at no additional cost), but we also offered to refund you for the remaining prepay balance on your account for future services. You did choose to move on and discontinue services with us.

I also want to note that in our photos from our most recent visit to your home and in recent satellite photos, we do find that the lawn looks better than it did when we started service for you and that it actually looks better than we would have expected given the time of seeding this year. With your continued good care, we expect that your lawn will look better and better over time due to our expertise and the start we’ve given it. We do wish you the best. I knew I was about a year out from putting my home on the market, ready to downsize. I credit Lawn Doctor for helping secure a sale. My lawn became overrun with Creeping Charlie after another business mowed for a summer—I think they transferred weed seeds on their equipment. For years I battled it and instead found more and different weeds take root as my grass was disappearing—some sprouting 2-4 feet high in just days. I also removed an above ground pool and had damage where it sat. I thought I’d have to rip out my lawn and sod but Doug came and did an evaluation. We started with what was basically a chemical burn of everything growing in my back yard. This was followed by clean up, power seeding, fertilizer, more seeding and in a year’s time I have a lush lawn—even bald spots under trees have grass. And I know the improvement of curb appeal and the mostly weed-free yard definitely helped with selling my house. It was under contract in days! Thanks Kim, Doug, Yvonne and the whole team!

The Lawn Doctor has really turned my lawn around these past 5 years. I think what I like best about them is the info they share with their customers. The amount of time they take to educate us whether its educational newsletters or verbally is beyond any customer service I have ever received. They truly care and are invested in their clients. Highly recommend!

Kim and Dan are great business owners and always treat you right. They have a wealth of knowledge and can make even the worst lawns look like green carpet again! The rest of their crew does a great job as well. Never had a bad experience with them, and would recommend them to anyone that wants a nice healthy lawn. Thanks for the great service and I look forward to having Lawn Doctor continue to take care of my lawn in the future. UPDATE: After having a pool installed last summer, we had Lawn Doctor restore our lawn. Dan came up with a very specific plan to amend our soil and how to grade properly. Dan and his team had the whole yard done in a few hours. Within a couple weeks, we were already back to a green yard. We continue to have them treat our lawn each season because of the great service and results. Thanks Lawn Doctor of Batavia/Aurora!

Have used their services for many years with great results. For example, they sodded a mostly bare area in the front of our house a few years ago; it looked great (thick) then and remains so. Also like their liquid aeration service.

My neighbors yard always looked greener than mine so I ask the tech about the service and I haven’t regretted it, the service has given me one of the greenest and best looking lawn in the neighborhood when others lawn starts to change color due to the weather both summers and winters my lawn is always consistently greener if I see or have any concerns about weeds, spotting I have a direct connection and communication with my lawn service I’ve used several different lawn services and obviously had to change but I have found the right service to provide the beauty lawn I’ve always wanted 1 last thing they have never tried to over sell me on products and other services but have always instructed me on how to maintain my lawn for maximum greenage if that even a word I’m thankful and I’ve already signed up for another season

Thank you so much, Dwight!

The front desk was not helpful at all, I asked for a professional to come and give me an estimate and tell me what i need done.. just a simple request. I couldn't understand her and she was extremely unhelpful the conversation went no where. I've never had this much trouble with a simple request talking to front desk.
Provider response
Update #2: Carole said that she did speak with you yesterday but that she did not get her your name or contact information. She was in the process of getting your information to get the evaluation set up when the call disconnected. Again- please reach out and I am more than happy to get an evaluation set up for you. I have used some of the chain lawn maintenance services before turning to the Lawn Doctors. While you'll pay a slightly higher price, what I like is that when they visit my lawn, they are clearly taking the appropriate amount of time for the applications. Seems like the low cost businesses are trying to see how fast they can do it and they almost always miss spots. Plus the pest control is excellent!
Provider response
Ken- Thanks so much for your trust in us. We very much appreciate you taking the time to leave this review and we have so enjoyed working with you over the past 8 years. Looking forward to many more. Thank you!

We've been using Lawn Doctor of Batavia-Aurora for several years now. They truly care about the condition of my lawn. The techs that come out are always so friendly, accommodating, and professional. Any questions or concerns, they forward them to the owners and we are contacted directly. Great company....glad I found them!!!!!

Simmy Kaur
Horrible, had to replace entire front lawn, they offered nothing to cope even though we were with then for the whole year! We even watered throughout the entire summer. Not sure what went wrong. Absolutely ridiculous and no reason why it happened.
Provider response
Hello Simmy- Thank you for the feedback. I'm so sorry for your frustration. I'd be happy to discuss Dan's findings again. Dan was out to your property on September 2nd. He did find that you had grub and chinchbug infestations in the lawn. You had chosen not to include the grub prevention in your program for the 2020 season (a grub curative treatment in the fall of 2019 was to treat that fall's grubs and would not last to prevent the grubs in 2020), so unfortunately, as we discussed, grubs can be a silent killer of the lawn and are generally not detectable until after the damage has been done, especially when your lawn was brown in many areas from the drought dormancy. I know that Dan had given you information about the options for treatment and restoration. Your husband did mention to us that he watered "here and there," but did not do any regular watering through the summer. We did note the drought stressed condition of the lawn at services through the summer and recommended watering. I did send out newsletters throughout the spring and summer notifying customers of the insect risks, drought and heat stress issues, and the suggestions to best help the lawn through it. In each of the newsletters, we urged customers to contact us if there were concerning issues in the lawn. Dan's advice had been that if you were unable to do watering that it would not make sense to treat the chinch bugs or do repair work and seeding, since you would not see much seed germination without watering. We refunded your remaining payment for the rest of the year's services and gave you advice on the best course of action. I know that damaged turf is frustrating, but unfortunately fertilizer treatments alone cannot keep grass alive with inadequate water and insect infestation.

Fine, good value. Sometimes I feel work is done quickly for efficiency but not necessarily to the highest quality
