Communication is very important when you hire a company to come in and provide a service for you on your home. Although sales and service have to work hand in hand, it is the technicians that come out to service your property and home that are the real points of contact for any property owner. The technician stands face-to-face with the owner. They have to answer questions and be able to provide explanations for concerns that a homeowner or property owner will have. The technicians that Trutco has sent out to my home to take care of my lawn have communicated very well with me. The most recent service technician that came out to my home was Marcus. Marcus asked me to provide a review on his services and on the services of Trutco. I am very happy with his service and the patience that he demonstrated while we covered my concerns. I have also been very happy with the other technicians that have come out. I am looking forward to maintaining my beautiful Florida lawn through the spring and summer. Keep up the good work. Thank you Trutco!

I don't usually write reviews, but James M. of Trutco is most deserving. We've had chronic problems with our lawn in the past, but Trutco and especially, James M. has things where they need to be. He walks the yard looking for areas needing special attention, addresses them with proper treatment and them completes regular lawn services. Couldn't be happier with him.

Thank you for letting us work on your lawn!

The lawn care and efforts in regards to water control and their efforts at reworking broken systems and updating them to be more adaptable to our needs and it's revival of a watering system that had seen its best years in the past decade as it gradually degraded. But their progress brought back and beyond it's previous capabilities by simply upgrading old elements to current higher-end elements with better controls and more versatile in nature. If you need repairs or upgrading of your system these folks give you great work for your dollars better than any other company I had looked at in the last 18 months. Give them a chance you will be pleasantly surprised.

Thank you, but I’m not sure you have the correct company.

We’ve been pretty frustrated with our yard after it was attacked by chinch bugs. We’ve had multiple people from Trutco come out to evaluate the issues, we’ve had 2 irrigation companies out as well. We were feeling pretty discouraged after not seeing any improvement after taking all the steps on our end. Trutco eventually agreed to help us with the cost of re-sodding our yard which we were grateful for. James M was the one that came to lay our sod and we couldn’t be happier with his service! He’s worked so hard and has done SUCH a great job on our yard and continued to uphold a very positive attitude even when he was presented with multiple setbacks. He was very friendly to us and was sure to carefully explain everything to us and care instructions. We are extremely grateful for James M, this is the best our yard has ever looked!

100% moneyback guaranteed definitely not true. You will get a call from a manager who will make every excuse under the sun about how you have problems and they are picture perfect. The summer was definitely rough due to heat, But under the care of this company, Chinch bugs killed my grass thus leading me to have to resod. Mind you we bought this house in April and they had just resodded for the previous owner in December. They do not treat your yard in a manner that is specific to your yards needs. Under their care, every single yard will be treated the exact same way, which is not how it should be. Everyone’s yard will need different care. You cannot treat everyone’s yard the same.

Provider response

While we believe our guarantee surpasses the industry standard money-back guarantee, we fully stand behind our work and are more than willing to refund a customer’s last service if that is the preferred resolution. Our guarantee states that when our customers follow the five-step checklist on our door hanger, we will fully protect their lawn against all treatable issues including sod replacement at our expense.

Unfortunately, in this case, the lawn did not qualify for a full warranty as a result of the previous home owner replacing the sod to stage the home for sale, but did not repair the underlying irrigation issues required to sustain that sod. Despite this, and understanding your predicament, we still offered to cover the cost of labor, preparation, and delivery under our discounted sod-deductible program as a goodwill resolution. It was accepted and completed, saving you approximately 65–70% compared to hiring an outside contractor. This offer was extended with the understanding you would need to repair your irrigation system, begin following the five-steps outlined on our door hanger, and we had reached an agreement on the diagnosis. Had we known after accepting our resolution, this diagnoses would be disputed, we would have submitted a turf sample to the University of Florida Plant pathology lab to eliminate the possibility of chinch bugs for your peace of mind. You have stated you do not wish to discuss this further with our management team.

The guy who came to fertilize my yard hung up the report on my door before he even started the service. Then he rushed to get it done not covering all of my yard. He was in and out and did not spend enough time to do the job. I called the company and they said they were going to review it, because they record the services and let me know if it needed to be retreated it. They said I should wait for a call from the technician too. Neither the company called me to let me know the results of their "review", nor the technician ever called me.

Turned over a newly soded yard to these guys and now the grass has weeds and patches everywhere. Called to report that one of the employees who fertilized our yard did not fully cover the yard/did a rushed, poor job and haven’t seen any improvement since. Hire at your own risk.

Mrs. Kapustka,

We have held off on responding to this review in hopes we could meet with you and directly address your concerns and come to a resolution together in an offline setting. After seeing areas of the lawn were not receiving sufficient irrigation coverage during the 11 week drought, and the lawn was mowed/scalped down to 1.5”-2” removing 100% of the leaf tissue in some instances, he stated he understands the changes that need to be made to ensure the long term survival of your turf.

Thank you for continuing to work with us, and we would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you directly when you are available to discuss any further concerns you may have.

Matt Siprelle

After seven years with trutco I watch my lawn get worse every year. last yearI was on them about the Nutsedge said they cannot control it it will just come back . In the last two months they did not put on any nitrogen potash or potassium all they did was treat for bugs and put iron on the yard .Also they said the yard would never be right because the canopy wasn’t thick enough and they weren’t willing to control the weeds . also had problems with the crabgrass they said that can be controlled with a pre-emergent that they have put on for the last seven years and all the crabgrass does is gets worse.

Provider response

Mr. Dolph,

I would like to start by saying thank you and your spouse for being customers for 7 years. I am sorry to read that you are feeling frustrated with the condition of the lawn. While it is understandable why you would be frustrated, I would like to share a picture with you from 2015; the year we first started your service ( https://bit.ly/3UoDkKk ). I did your estimate personally and was warned before arriving that the lawn was in extremely poor shape and was asked to give an honest assessment of what we would or wouldn’t be able to do for your property. Upon arrival, we could see that the majority of the lawn was mix of invasive grass, broadleaf weeds, sedge, and bare areas. Approximately 45% of the lawn had viable turf that would be considered desirable, like St Augustine or Bermuda, and the remaining 55% would have to be replaced or resoded to be what we would consider a 5 star lawn. We are always extremely hesitant to take on a lawn in such a condition without a very clear understanding of what we will, and more importantly won’t, be able to accomplish for our customers. Without this understanding we would never expect a dissatisfied customer to continue our no-contract service.

As a company, we will always treat weeds as often as necessary and address any conducive conditions to weed development until your lawn is dense and hearty enough to prevent future weed outbreaks. Seeing that your lawn did not have viable turf in large areas, there was unfortunately never a possibility of building up the turf to an acceptable level to prevent such outbreaks. This is information we made clear to Ms. Dolph at the time of the estimate, and you personally when you took over as the primary point of contact last year. We believed these pre-existing limitations were understood as an unfortunate reality and not a failure of our service.

Last year, you informed us of your plans to begin the overhaul of your lawn. At this time, we were asked to hold off on pre-emergents in areas of the lawn so you could kill off the pre-existing invasive grasses and attempt to establish a more desire-able Bermuda seed. At your final service call in August, you walked us over to the newly seeded areas which we both agree had an abundance of weeds. These are the same areas you had previously asked us not to apply pre-emergents, dating back to last year. You also asked us not treat this section at all during June and July while you were in the process of killing off the invasive grass and reseeding with desirable turf. We discussed the weeds in the newly germinating Bermuda and it was our recommendation to wait for the lawn to fully establish and root before applying any aggressive weed treatments. At the time you seemed to agree that was the best course of action, but unfortunately 2 weeks after our meeting the service was cancelled. If we can be of any help in the future, or you would like us to return and apply treatment after the seeds are established, please feel free to reach out to us at (904) 303-7285.

Matt Siprelle

BEWARE! have complained several times about my grass looking thin, weeds, etc. Trutco "claims" they treat my yard monthly. Today, I watched the service guy spread a little granular in the front yard. He never treated the sides or back yard. He just sat in his truck for a bit then left. Trutco, YOU'RE FIRED!

Provider response

Ms. Reis,

Last week I emailed you the screen shots from the application performed at your property on 5/23. As you are already aware, all work performed by our employees is live streamed to our office, and also stored remotely for 45 days. We can review any application to ensure quality.

The video that I reviewed and the screen shots you have now been emailed show a vehicle backing out of the driveway as our technician had arrived, but prior to servicing the property. In the video, our technician begins treatment on the right side of your property, heads to the back, and emerges from the left side of your home. Next, the same vehicle (presumably yours) returns to the driveway. At this time, our technician is completing the treatment in your front lawn. He then begins a weed treatment on the right side of your house, heads to the back yard, and emerges again from the left side of the house. Our technician returns to the truck a final time, completes the invoice, and hangs it on the door. You have stated that the small portion of the work observed as your vehicle pulls into the driveway and the driver enters the house was the only work completed that day. We hope you are now satisfied with the documentation we have provided you showing the complete application. The thoroughness of this granular application could also have been verified by the physical presence of the yellow granular fertilizer pellets applied by our technician, as we suggested you check during your initial call to our office.

After stating that we would look into this matter further and would not charge you for the service until your concerns were fully resolved, you have not replied to our email or phone calls. In the three years you have been our customer we have fortunately been able to resolve your past concerns by providing you with similar documentation regarding the thoroughness and effectiveness of our treatments. Please contact our office, as you have not cancelled your service and we have not heard back from you regarding the resolution to this situation. We will suspend future services until we have confirmation of how you wish to proceed.

Matt Siprelle

We started out with them on our new lawn. One year later, weeds were popping up everywhere. When I called to voice my unhappiness, the tech came out to take a look. His reply was “ for a yard this big, the weeds are considered acceptable.” Furthermore he said I could pull out the ‘random’ weeds by hand and if I wasn’t happy to do it, he will come out to do it. He pulled out the weeds I pointed to him and stuffed them into his pocket. He also said that once the lawn is mowed, I wouldn’t be able to see the weeds. What kind of logic is that? What really put me off was instead of trying to rectify the situation, he said if I was not happy with their service, I’m welcome to try other companies.

Provider response

My name is Neil and I am one of the service managers at Trutco. I met with you regarding the weeds beginning to pop up in your lawn. Upon walking the property with you and hearing your concerns, you indicated to me that our service should prevent all weeds, and that any weeds popping up was unacceptable. While we lean heavily on our pre-emergent weed barriers to prevent weeds, there are unfortunately varieties of weeds that pre-emergents alone do not prevent. I will link to some information below for further review.

This is one of the reasons we as a company have decided to visit our properties once a month, to tackle those weeds that are immune to pre-emergent weed barriers as soon as they germinate. While walking your property it was evident that the most recent pre-emergent barrier was correctly applied and acting as it should, based upon only being able to locate a handful or, as you indicated, a “pocketful” of weeds.

While pre-emergent barriers alone will not prevent all weeds, all weed varieties CAN be prevented through a partnership between homeowner and professional applicator with a combination of treatments and proper cultural practices. We will always treat problems that arise and communicate to our customers any steps they can take to prevent recurrence. For example, I suggested that mowing on the highest setting would help your lawn fully establish and achieve the density needed to prevent the weeds you were seeing germinate. This is a common suggestion that I believe was misinterpreted as me suggesting you mow your lawn to mask a weed problem. Like you, I agree that would not be effective. Our service also includes service calls, like the service call I was on that very day with you, to tackle any weeds that germinate. Our customers are not expected to pull any weeds that are selectively controllable with pre- or post-emergent herbicide.

It did become evident that the information I was providing you was not received as helpful and we were not going to be able to meet your expectations. At this time I did find it appropriate to ask if you wished to continue with our service, or seek a second opinion. We are always going to give an honest evaluation and let you decide the best course of action for you and your lawn, whether you chose to continue our service or go in a different direction. We never want to lose any customer, and are sorry you chose to discontinue service.

UF IFAS Newsletter: http://hosted.vresp.com/1421571/288f64aadb/544889541/e46f60d765/

I called the company today to ask for a one-time fertilization and possible insecticide spray for my new St Augustine grass. The guy that answered immediately told me that they did not have time for a one time job, and they were just too busy for one time applications. This was very rude to me. If I had liked the service they provided, a one time application would have become a contract. Horrible customer service skills.
