I’ve really had an awful experience recently with this company. Which is disappointing, because I had them for years with no issues. Lately, it’s been one headache after another. Most recently, I hired them to spray for weeds. They came out and said the weeds were too tall, and refused to spray. Fine. I had the lawn mowed, even though it hadn’t grown at all, it was just some weeds around the edge. They came back out four days later, and refused to spray again, because the weeds had grown again. The technician took a photo next to a couple like 4-6 inch tall weeds, and they texted me basically scolding me about it. Apparently they only want to do weed control if you don’t really have weeds. I reminded them that I’d hired them to help with the weeds, and sent them videos of what the yard actually looks like, and they reluctantly came back out…but not before asking me to mow again (4 days after it was mowed) Needless to say, I’m shopping around now.

Provider response

Hi Troy, we’re really sorry to hear about your recent experience, especially after having you as a customer for so many years. We understand how frustrating this situation felt, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

When a lawn has been off service and weeds become overgrown, we typically recommend mowing prior to treatment. This isn’t to avoid servicing the lawn, but to ensure the application is as effective as possible. Taller or uneven weeds can block proper coverage and reduce how well the product absorbs, which can lead to inconsistent results.

We do want to acknowledge that after speaking with you, we returned the same day and completed the treatment at your request. While we were happy to do so, we also want to be transparent that applying without those prep steps can impact the overall effectiveness.

After treatment, we generally recommend waiting about 48 hours before mowing. This allows the product time to fully absorb and move through the plant to the root system. Mowing too soon can reduce results. That said, this is not a requirement, the treatment will still work either way but following these guidelines helps achieve faster, more consistent results.

We’re sorry again for the frustration this caused and agree that the communication could have been handled better. Your feedback is being reviewed with our team so we can improve moving forward. We truly value your long-time business and would appreciate the opportunity to make things right.

thieves crooks they claimed that they come to my lawn and sprayed and I never saw one of them and every time they have the credit card they charge the credit card. I noticed after a while that the weeds are more in my backyard and my front yard. I never recommend this company and I warn anyone from dealing with them. They are thieves, crooks, and all that they want to get your credit card and charge it every visit for 200 or more and then when I tell them to stop, they told me that I owe them money I never saw one of the crew in my backyard on my front yard and all they said they came be aware of these crooks and don't give your business to them. I also will inform the BBB about them because they need to be out of business.

Provider response

Hi there! We don’t have an active customer in the database with this name. Please give us a call so we can assist as we are not crooks or thieves.

Initially, this company was great. They answered my call and got my service scheduled. They showed up to my home, didn’t ring the doorbell or knock on the door to let me know anyone was there or to put up my dogs and the stuff they sprayed on the yard is extremely toxic, so I was a little aggravated with that, but the service went well so I overlooked it. Regarding payment for the service: I offered to prepay, but they said they would invoice me and I could pay it that way. The service we done I think 8-12-24. I had honestly forgot about it bc I run two businesses and don’t have the time to track down bills. I expect to receive the invoice so I can pay it. Fast forward to today 9-12-24 , I got a phone call and when I answered the girl on the phone said “this is abracadabra lawn care and we still haven’t received payment for you service and I have called to get payment now”. First of all, you never speak to a customer that way . Secondly, you could use a better tone of voice and choice of words . Thirdly, make sure the person has received the invoice before you start barking at them. I explained to her that I hadn’t received an invoice or I would surely have paid it. I’m not one to not pay my bills. She said “well I sent it to your email” and I told her I hadn’t received it. She proceeded to say “well did you ever think to check your spam” ……and my answer was no bc I hadn’t been looking for it. So there I went thumbing through my email for the invoice and of course it was NO WHERE to be found. So I asked the lady to please tell me what email address she had. Sure enough they had spelled the email wrong , so I had in fact not received the email. As I explained this to the woman she got very quiet and then said “mam you don’t have to be rude”. I was not being rude , I was simply explaining that that was the reason I hadn’t received an email and that it was not on me, since she has been so blatantly rude about me not paying my invoice . This was literally the worst customer service I might have ever received . You NEVER call a customer and tell them “I’m calling to get payment now” in the tone of voice she used. Not everyone out there is trying to escape paying or dodge you. In this instance, I simply hadn’t received the emails that I could pay, or even knew how much to pay. Once I received the invoice, it was paid within an hour, but I will definitely NOT be doing anymore business with this company. It makes me sad bc our sweet elderly neighbors referred us, and so I was sure that they would be awesome to work with bc my neighbors said so. I’m sad I didn’t get to have that experience.

Provider response

My apologies for the misunderstanding. We did let you know the day we were coming for service. Due to so many working from home and requesting us not to knock and disturb them we now only knock if requested, or if the animals are actually in the yard, or the gate is locked. However if you were to continue service we could flag your account to be texted the day before service and to knock when they arrive.

As far as the call, it is our company policy to call customers when their account is 30 days past due. Many times the invoice gets overlooked in the customers inbox, goes to spam, or they just simple forget about it. When we call to inquire we do offer to take payment over the phone as a convenience so you don't have to go online to pay or write a check and put it in the mail. You stated you had not received the invoice, so I asked if you could check your spam as they most often will end up there. You then said you ran 2 businesses and you were not going to hunt down the invoice so I asked to confirm your email and you continued saying you were too busy to be contacting us about the invoice. This is exactly why we call, we understand people get busy and these things get overlooked. We then discovered your email had a typo. I corrected it and resent the invoice to you. You replied confirming you received it and requested a link to pay. I then sent you a link and you replied you didn't want to create an account and responded with your credit card info. I ran your payment and sent you a receipt and thanked you. Again I apologize for the miscommunication as the call was never intended to be rude, as it was just a friendly reminder/follow up on a past due service payment.

This was an interesting call I called them too find out as a lawn care service some questions regarding what they do and do not do. Then she told me we don't do mowing well that's what a lawn care service does is mowing she said we just do fertilizer. And then she hung up on me so that's why the one star review terrible customer service

Provider response

Our apologies for the misunderstanding. We do not provide mowing, shrub trimming, landscape install services. “Lawn care services” is a really broad term that Google puts everything under . We provide the chemical side of lawn care such as weed control, fertilization, and pest control for the lawn and shrubs. After telling you we don’t provide mowing I didn’t get a response. I said hello 3 times and there was no response. I apologize we must have had a bad connection. This is at the time we have all the power outages from the storm and our phone service has been spotty and our power has been off and on. Sorry for the inconvenience, customer service is our top priority.

After paying in over $500 for treatment, our lawn is actually worse than before this company started. They claimed it was diseased. Well, we actually had another professional come and inspect, turns out not diseased. They falsely represented themselves and then after fulfillment of the written estimate they turned us over to a collection agency. They’ve been out to look at our issues a few times and never could resolve them. One young man that came was observed by my wife spraying our rose bushes and plants against the fence. Within two weeks they were dying. I called and one gentleman came and they claimed “diseased”! Also our grass was way worse than ever and now had bald spots everywhere! Weeds became worse! They were even sent pictures and inspected. But after several treatments … it was worse! We’ve called another specialist and was advised it was over fertilized and burned. As I stated earlier, we fulfilled our obligation for the estimate and treatments given. They then claimed we owe for two more treatments of which no one ever showed nor were we notified. The owner claims they sent an email. They did not. All previous times we were texted that a tech was coming. No notification for Nov or Dec 2022. But we were charged and our rear gate was locked so there was no means of entry. We are now fraudulently being turned over to collections for services not rendered. I called and attempted to discuss but was treated rudely and hung up on. Called and left messages to talk to supervisor no return response. Called again, Katrina? The alleged owner was just as unaccommodating as their office personnel. Very rude and unprofessional. Basically we feel scammed and left with dead rose bushes, plants & grass. We have all the evidence, proof and payments of fulfillment. It’s not even about the $116.00, it’s the principle of their business practices and unprofessionalism. We’ve also been advised by many others of their scams and repeating the same treatment. Turning everything over the legal process along with losses and fees! We have now hired an advocate that also verifies they ruined our lawn and killed our plants! If there was anyway to give minus stars of course we would. Turning them over to the State Agricultural Commission, BBB & our legal team. Believing they’ll never rip anyone off again nor poison their plants or kill their grass. Unbelievable that this company even exists! Get ready for the come back falsifications because they are full of them. Reply to owner’s excuses: The fact remains that we fulfilled our obligation and agreement. Your false claims are unwarranted. The claims your company has of “disease” are false as they have been refuted by another professional. You’re scamming with your illegitimate claims concerning “cancellation policy”. There is no contract only the estimate for said number of treatments. Which were all paid with exception to the November and December dates due to no service or treatment given. Your extensive falsification will be turned over and refuted with evidence of before and after pictures and documentation of payment. It is appalling how you treat customers. Your excuses are completely false, ridiculous and without warrant. Your measly $116 collection will end up costing you a surmountable cost way beyond, plus loss of business and legal action for damages to our lawn. Sad day for those who trust you going forward. It will cost them dearly. Customers Beware!

Provider response

Mr. Manning, when we started treating your lawn it was diseased. We preformed disease control and unfortunately it will take time for the lawn to recover and bare areas to fill in as the grass has to grow back together due to the extent of the disease damage and the fact it was summer and we were dealing with drought conditions this takes time. We came back out and treated the weeds in question as well. The roses do have leaf spot disease which require a special landscape shrub and ornamental treatment. The email notifications go out prior to service automatically and there is record of this on your account. If you would have contacted us that the back gate was locked we would have returned to treat the backyard, however this was never mentioned until we contacted you regarding your unpaid balance. The program you were on was a recurring service until you call to cancel. We cancelled the service due to non-payment and after several attempts to contact you with no response it was forwarded to collections. We would have gladly cancelled your service sooner had you called, or even replied to the pre-service notification emails, or called when you received the November invoice or one of the 3 payment reminder emails. We do not have contracts. All we ask is the customer to call or email to cancel.

I'd stay away from this place. They were supposed to come on 4/1/2022 and nobody showed up. They surprised me on 4/2/2022 without a word. When I asked about being notified that nobody was coming, I was told that I wasn't marked as a "call ahead", so they just show up whenever and don't notify if they aren't fulfilling their obligation. Today is 5/24, and I was told they would be here every 6 weeks. This is 7 1/2 weeks and not a word. I guess we'll hire a company that our neighbors are using and see how that goes. I know it's only been one treatment, but I can't see any difference and we badly need the 2nd treatment that they didn't show up for. Tobey Pearson

Provider response

Mr Pearson, We never heard from you about your concerns until today 5/24 from a service that was provided 4/2. The applications are every 6-7 weeks as stated on the estimate form. You were scheduled for service however this week, we are running behind due to high winds and rain lately. If you would have called earlier about your concerns we would have been more than happy to address them and expediate your service visit. Unfortunately if we aren't made aware of an issue we can't address it. We do have customers that ask to be notified the day before treatment due to locked gates or animals and we mark them as text/call aheads. We could have done this for you as well but hadn't as we are only treating the front lawn and it wasn't requested. We would have loved the opportunity to have resolved this issue as it was an easy fix.

I have had Abracadabra spraying my yard for almost a year and have shown little improvement, but the last spray that they did was when all the leaves were on the yard. They sprayed over the leaves. When I called to ask how the spray was going to get to the yard with it covered with leaves. My response was to turn my sprinkler system on. Now when the temperature is 20 degrees F do they really think I am going to turn on my sprinkler system? When we were home once when they sprayed they spent about 2 minutes on the back yard. I am not sure how much they sprayed in that time. I am cancelling my service.

Provider response

Hi Harold! The application we applied needs to be watered in within 14 days if no rain. Unfortunately pre-emergents only work if watered in. Over the last 14 days there have been times of above freezing temps and luckily rain so your application has been watered in and is effective. In regards to the improvement in your lawn I show we notified you in April of 2017 that your lawn required a special grassy weed treatment series for the Dallis and Bahia grass present as there is no pre-emergent for these weeds and they require a special product to kill them. We left a notice to call for special treatment pricing and have not heard from you. We make it a policy to not brow beat customers into additional services so we just leave the info on your invoice if we see something additional your lawn can benefit from.

we have employed these people for over 1 1/2 yrs..and everything was great till they hired a new LEADMAN....they had this guy come out to spray for weeds for the 3rd time and he would not spray saying weeds are to close to the garden.....when I talked to the owner he told me that was his leadman (the best he had) really??? then he said yes and it didn't matter if he did wrong or not he was not going to argue with him because he was his best!! really?? i told him to come look for himself and he said it didn't matter he was his best ..... 5 mins later his secretary calls and says he is on his way....i told her no hes not...HE'S FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS COMPANY??? I would not recommend this company for lawn service anymore period. there are plenty of others to choose from without having to put up with a owner like him.

Provider response

Mr. Myers,

In response to your bad review we want to make sure the people that will read this know the truth behind our unfortunate conflict. First, you have been with us barely a year, since 3/2012. At this time your lawn was one of the worst on the block and is now easily one of the best, which is how we got your neighbors lawn, which we still service. Second, we didn't just hire a new lead man, he has been with us for 3 years and has been an outstanding employee. We get compliments all the time by phone and in writing with payment to how much they like him. Third, it is in fact illegal for us to spray chemicals along the borders or near the borders of any eatable garden area per the label directions. By doing so we would be violating Texas State Law and could be fined. Saying that the owner told you that it did not matter if the lead man did wrong was an out right lie. What you were actually told was that the owner wanted to look at it himself. At this time you said you did not want the same technician that has been coming out to come out again. When you were asked which technician that was your exact words were "the Mexican." The tone in your voice and the description "the Mexican" does not sit well with us as we do not tolerate racism from our customers or our staff. Also when we talked to our lead man after this conversation with you he revealed that you have never been friendly towards him. The office manager called you to tell you the owner was going to come by within the hour, which was after hours, and you refused therefore we were never given the proper opportunity to solve your problem, which we were more that willing to do. "What happened to this company??" Actually we are the same great company we have always been with the same ownership and exact staff that has thrived on great customer service and outstanding results. We greatly appreciate each and every customer that we are privileged to have and are proud to say that we still service our core group of customers that we started this company with 10 years ago.
