If zero stars were possible, that’s what I’d give. Large portions of my lawn edges are dead from herbicide drift and now crawling with pests. The yard is full of weeds and looks worse than it ever has. I’ve been paying $160 a month, and my lawn is completely destroyed. The owner didn’t bother to call — he sent Lou, who admitted they caused the damage but still charged me to “fix” it. Nothing was actually done to address the weeds. This company is no longer what it used to be. I contracted yesterday Evergreen Lawn.

Mrs. Cohen,
I wanted to take a moment to respond and clarify to what appears to be many misunderstandings in what has been stated here.

In the six years that we have serviced your property, we have always come on an every other month basis, a total of six services over the course of the year, not monthly as you have suggested.

Only after we serviced the property on November 14th, and had not received payment where our office had reached out, did I hear anything about you not being happy with our service. Although I was out of town for a funeral that week, I knew my sales manager would be doing an estimate in your neighborhood and I wanted someone to at least go by and see what was going on instead of waiting until I was back.

Upon my return I discussed with Lou what he had seen and what the basis of your issues were. I believe there is definitely some misunderstanding here because what I was told is that yes he agreed that you had a lot of weeds, but that he also disclosed seeing symptoms of the new lethal viral necrosis disease which unfortunately is an incurable disease that is running rampant throughout Broward county and in particular your neighborhood in general.

Keeping the grass thick and healthy is and always will be our number one weed control, a disease working against that throws a major wrench into the equation. I knew this was going to become a major issue for us, and I knew many homeowners were going to have a difficult time understanding this. In attempt to get ahead of it, In January of last year I mailed out a brochure to every one of our customers explaining in detail the spread of the disease throughout South Florida, what to expect, what we can do, and how within 3-5 years 80% of yards are most likely going to completely die and would need to be re-sodded with a disease resistant variant of St. Augustine not.

To make matters worse you may not see the full blown symptoms (lesions) of the disease until after the fact and generally after we begin experiencing cold fronts... Late October/November (which also coincides time frame wise here) Symptoms will generally improve somewhat over the course of the warmer months only to repeat the process again the following winter larger in size and more severe.

Lou mentioned you were having issues with a podocarpus hedge and that you were suggesting that there was dieback from them from us. The dieback on those hedges has nothing to do with anything we were doing on the property including fertilization to the grass. To put in perspective the root system of a plant of those sizes requires roughly a 2/1 greater ratio of product, while being concentrated in a much smaller area to properly feed those plants. Any fertilizer applied to the grass, broadcast at a significantly smaller rate per square foot, would have zero bearing on those plants, even if some granules were in the vicinity.

The brown grass along the edges is more indicative of round up application overspray/drift to the beds, not something we use or apply, generally that product and service would be applied by your landscaping company. If it were something that we caused it wouldn't be confined to just the edges of the grass or the flower beds, it would have been the entire yard.

I was under the impression that you understood these factors and were continuing with us servicing the property. We went ahead and ate the cost of the November service out of good faith towards you, and then resumed with our January service. Following that service you were irate because there was a charge and felt that it also should have been free.

In twenty years of being in business never once has anyone gone out of their way to leave a negative review until now. I take immense pride in the quality of service we provide, nothing has changed in what we use or do in the six years we began service. We are unfairly being blamed for something we didn't cause.

Regardless, I wish you nothing but the best.

Sincerely,
Marisa Zeppieri
