Customer reviews for Always Green

I initially signed up for Always Green for interior and exterior pest control. A few weeks ago I was notified that they sold their business to TruGreen. I have had nothing but incredible problems since then; TruGreen has TERRIBLE customer service, unable to resolve issues with their internet platform; when you are connected to customer service it is often a disengaged 20-something who does not care or can barely speak the English language. WORST experience and I will be cancelling service.

Any recommendations for a company to take over fertilizing our lawn and shrubs? Have been using Always Green for over 15 years but since they merged with TruGreen they are worthless. Called for service over a week ago due to browning lawn and shrubs. Told me they would send some one out in 5-7 days. Unacceptable as lawn is worse and several shrubs are dead.

I would not recommend. Customer service is awful. Supposed to come out every 6 weeks or so. Came out 9 days after a service. On top of that bill was invoiced for a service never received. They messed up my neighbors bushes and blamed him. Just not worth the aggravation. Must be bad ownership as I have read other reviews and too many poor reviews to be a coincidence.

Horrible Customer Service . I've called and emailed with no response for about week. They put Fertilizer and Pest Control on my Grass that was Green and it slowly turned Brown. It was raining and my irrigation system was on a timer, so no isdues there. My other service did a tremendous job, before I hired this Horrible Company ti save money during these trying times. Oh Well, back to my Old Company. You've been Warned people.

I would give Always Green a zero! We have been using Always Green since 1999 (22 years) - hired them when my husband retired from the Air Force. On June 28th Always Green sprayed our plants and they began to die. The owner, Peter, tried to blamed us -- watering too much or pressure washing our house. Our irrigation has been turned off since June with it being the rainy season and we have not pressure washed our house. The experts I talked to said none of that would kill our plants. Peter pretended to work with us over the next month but now he and his manager, Ryan, have ghosted us. I finally got in touch with Peter by calling him from another number. Apparently, Always Green and TruGreen have a partnership and Peter has been let go. Peter said he did not and will not tell TruGreen about Always Green killing our plants. The giant Liriopes in the pictures were over 25 years old and thriving, as were all my plants. The scheffleras were 4 feet tall and beautiful. I have tried to call TruGreen as my lawyer says they are now responsible, but we have not heard back from them. Next step is to call Channel 8 and go to Small Claims Court. Bottom Line: Don't hire Always Green. If you are currently an "Almost" Green customer, please beware. Some After and Before pictures

Ok, first, I usually don't write a mixed review for a company we're still with but apparently they merged w/Tru-Green but I never got their letter announcing the change. Always Green was the best!!! However, someone from their office called yesterday to schedule at home pest control (the tech NEVER showed up btw smdh), claimed she left me a voicemail, which she never did, & because we had a LOT of trouble w/T-Mobile back in May I called back & got a snarky, sarcastic reply from her. She said "I made a mistake, is that ok"? It took me FIVE minutes to explain what happened w/T-Mobile back in May smdh! She finally said, Oh, my, that's understandable, BUT, NO apology for her snarky attitude. I, nor any customer, should NEVER get a snarky reply from a company- EVER!!! I really, really hope Tru-Green gives us the same excellent service Always Green did. I will miss Always Green. I mean that :-(

The technicians at this company are top-notch. (Specifically Bill and Andrew.) Reading other reviews, I get the feeling that this company really works to hire competent technicians. In my experience, this really shows. Originally there was quite a bit of confusion in the office as to what I requested, but the office did work to clarify the issue and there have been no problems since. I mostly use Always Green as a preventative for bugs (inside), but they have also assisted me with ant hills/issues. When I acquired the property, there were major issues in the yard with ants. Always Green helped me get the issue under control immediately. I once had small roaches in my shower, and they came out immediately to treat and got it under control asap. I have not had any other issues since thanks to their quality prevention treatment, but I am confident that if I were to have problems then they would work quickly to solve them.

They are supposed to notify me the day before they arrive as I need to unlock my gate before I leave for work to allow them to access my backyard. Nearly every time, they either don’t notify and show up anyway or tell me they’re coming and never show. One time they even didn’t call, treated the front yard only and left a full price bill! Terrible communication!!!

Provider response

Hi Sam,
We appreciate your feedback. All of our technicians are trained the same way. They should never treat only a portion but leave a full priced bill. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we are always willing to perform re-treats and have management take care of any issues for our loyal paying customers.
Sincerely,
Always Green

I've had a quarterly pest control subscription for over a year. I've called three times over the last 2 weeks during business hours with no response to schedule a visit. I understand you may not always be available when I call, but I even left voicemails because I expect professionalism and the courtesy of a call back from a company I've been doing business with for over a year. At this point, I'm looking for an answer as to why I've not been called back. Are you still in business? Are you that busy that you can't call back your customers within 2 weeks? Is this considered professional? With so many pest control options out there, is this the level of service you strive for?

Provider response

Absolutely awful. We stayed with them for years, and with every day that went by the lawn looked worse than it did the day before. It was always the same type of story...they would tell me I was underwatering, or I was overwatering, or my mower blades are dull, or my sprinklers weren't providing proper coverage, or something else that was somehow MY fault. It was never anything that they were responsible for. I always followed their watering schedule to the letter, and my irrigation system has more than adequate coverage. Anyway, At the end, my once-lush st Augustine lawn is nothing but a barren pasture full of weeds. To add insult to injury, just Before I finally fired them, I reached out to them one last time to let them know how bad the lawn looked (which I did about once a year). They said a manager would call, but that call never came. So, I fired them and quickly received an email saying the manager had been trying to reach me and came by on Friday to look at the lawn, and that it needs iron. What they didn't realize is that I have cameras all over my property...nobody came to my house on Friday at all, and I never received a call. This was the lowest of the low. Just a bold faced lie! Avoid this company! Trust me!

Provider response

Hello,
As promised and discussed, we have plugged areas and will continually follow up with weed and fungus control as well. Please water the plugs daily since areas were dry. We will do everything we can to bring the lawn back into shape and hope to turn the lawn around in a short amount of time.
Sincerely,
Always Green

Honestly, I’m not sure why we used them for as long as we did. Call it laziness because we didn’t want to bother with getting another company to come out, but we have had enough. First, I can never read the reports they place on our door after the service. It’s hand written, so if want to take care of your yard, you have to try to decipher what they are telling you to do. 2nd we just treated our yard for fungus, $75, and apparently we had frost bite then a fungus again. I’m so confused. My husband called and spoke to a lady about our recent fungus treatment and why we need it again so soon. She was very rude. To shorten the story, My husband was trying to understand more about the fungus and why we need to pay so much again so quickly, and she snidely said, “Well do you want the treatment or not?” Basically she didn’t care and wanted off the phone with him. We had a few other issues that would take too much time for you to read... but I just want to let other consumers know our experiences so they can make a better decision since there a ton of lawn fertilizer companies you can choose from. When I went in line to post this review, I wasn’t surprised to see they have a four star rating and there’s other similar reviews about their unprofessionalism. This is certainly an issue within their company and I for one don’t want to pay a service and not get treated like a valuable customer. We are taking our business to Grass monkey.

Provider response

Hi Holly,
Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate your business thus far. The customer corner that we leave behind for your lawn is custom to your home which is why it's hand written. Pre-printed notes may be more legible but scripted. As far as the lack of legibility, we train our technicians to write clearly but we do apologize if you were unable to read the notes even so. We always try to recommend and let customers know that if for some reason you have questions or trouble with what we leave behind, just give us a call and you can talk to a manager or your specific technician directly to help guide you in caring for your lawn. As far as the fungicide, we treated the yard in September for fungus and the charge was $57.00. That price is actually a discounted rate to help our customers financially, we typically charge more, around $75.00+ based on how large the lawn is. It appears the technician did recommend another fungicide this past Monday 2/22/21 for another $57.00 (discounted). Fungicides are recommended when signs of bacteria are growing within the soil, which is common with Florida's dramatic climate changes. As far as our office staff and your husband calling in, we want our customers to feel satisfied with answers to questions they may have. That being said, we do appreciate the feedback if you feel our office was unprofessional and will manage within. All in all, we do our best to please customers as a family owned company. If there is anything we can do moving forward to mend the business relationship, we would love to do so. Please feel free to contact our office and ask for a manager, 813-818-7022. Sincerely, Always Green

Being fairly new to the area I depend on reviews when making choices for service. I go out of my way when a company does a good job , but feel obligated to the community when one does a poor job. ALWAYS GREEN has done our yard for the past few years. We had a picture perfect backyard when they started. It has been a disaster for the last few years, but they kept promising to make it right. So we stuck with them and it is still a disaster. We just cancelled our service.

Provider response

Hi Dianne,

We appreciate the business that you have given us over the last several years. As a family owned and operated company, we are always willing to go above and beyond for our customers within reason. That being said, we are not in the sod industry but we provided sod more than several times as the backyard was struggling time and time again, out of good faith. We took several soil samples and asked for the irrigation to be adjusted with the seasons. It is important for each property to be watered correctly during various times of the year as drought and fungus can be apparent. We also applied multiple products not included in the regular service to off set levels that were too high/low, free of charge, to help encourage turf health. Aside from the regular visits, we visited the property 14 times starting from 12/2018. Unfortunately we felt we did everything possible as far as what we offer and wish you the best. If something were to change in the future, we will be happy to help!
Sincerely,
Always Green

Had them for a little over a year. My grass got brown in spots, they said they treated but it kept getting worse. They promised to bring some sod to replace some areas and I saw that they replaced the dead grass with sod that is not even the same kind of grass in the yard. My beautiful sodded back and front yards were destroyed under contract with them. I would never recommend them!

Provider response

Hi Sue,
We appreciate the feedback as we are always trying to improve internally. Since your last name is not listed on this review, it is difficult to investigate your concerns due to a lack of information. We searched for a "Sue H" in our system and have no records at all, so perhaps you have the wrong company. We would like to speak with you directly to further investigate this and correct anything on our end. We would mend dead patches with the correct grass type to encourage growth and turf health. Please contact the office at 813-818-7022 and mention this review when you ask for a manager. Thank you!
Sincerely, Always Green

If I could give zero stars I would. I initially hired Always Green because of their overwhelmingly positive reviewing on websites like Home Advisor. Moving into a new home, I wanted to make sure I hired the right company to take care of my lawn. I even opted to pay them $70 per application to treat both my lawn and my plants. The first few months were fine. The lawn looked great, my plants were OK and I was happy. I didn’t pay much attention early in the summer as it was very hot and very dry. Then, in July, it was noted on my invoice that I had a fungus on my grass and I needed to pay $50 for an additional treatment. Luckily, that request jolted me out of the denial I was in. I really paid attention. There were weeds throughout my grass and my plants (which I was paying extra to be treated) looked dead. I wrote customer service on their website to raise concerns about how my lawn looked and pretty immediately got a response that a “supervisor” would be out to look at my lawn. A few days later, I had a note on my door that said I - in fact - did NOT have a fungus, but instead was cutting my grass too short and not watering it enough (I guess those watering restrictions in Pasco County really don’t matter to these guys). A few days later, another rep came out to “treat” to my lawn and repeated the same line in his notes about my grass being cut too short. This will become important in a minute, so keep reading. In the interim, I contacted three companies to give me quotes on my lawn. Each of those three companies independently came to the same conclusions: 1) my yard was not being treated with fertilizer; 2) my plants had witches broom fungus; 3) I had crabgrass, broadleaf, and other weeds throughout my lawn. I wrote back in to customer service to immediately terminate my service. I shared with them my extreme displeasure, the findings of the other companies, and asked how they thought it fair to deal with my final invoice for $70 given these findings. The response I received was incredibly condescending. “Trust us” was the answer. The rep stated that I had been advised three times my grass was being cut too short - which is what was causing the weeds to grow. Nevermind the fact two of those three times were within days of one another. As for the findings of the other companies? They were apparently telling me that my lawn wasn’t being fertilized because they “didn’t know what was going on.” And, oh, those plants with the fungus? Totally ignored it. Let’s not forget the $50 treatment they tried to sell me that I did not need. Zero responsibility. None. It was all my fault. Not even one month after switching companies, my grass looks very green, the weeds have been greatly reduced, and my plants are starting to grow again. Now, despite all of the evidence Always Green was clearly not doing what I was paying them to do for 9 months, they’re demanding payment on my last “treatment.” Avoid this company at all costs. They don’t care about you, and they will not take responsibility for their work (or lack thereof). They’ll just leave you to foot the bill for their ineptitude (literally).

Provider response

Hi Nick,
We would like to thank you for taking the time to write this review as it helps us to improve/manage internally. We only expect you to receive 5 star service throughout the entire year, so being that you received any less is extremely important to us. In regards to the weeds in the lawn, the summertime is a stressful time for all lawns. During this time, there is excessive heat, humidity, high soil temperatures, lack of water and too much water. Therefore, we cannot use strong herbicides to kill certain weeds or the chemicals will burn the “good” turf. Currently, there is no post emergent herbicide that can kill crab grass or wild Bermuda. We recommend it to be pulled or rounded up as it pops up. We do use pre-emergents all throughout the year to help prevent and control these. We treat broad leaf weeds year round, which can also be treated between services via the free service calls. As for the fungus in July, we use an expensive fungicide which is not included in the regular lawn service thus is why we charge extra. We can spot treat for free, but if the fungus is widespread, a blanket spray is needed. Your regular lawn service was completed 7/24 when our technician quoted a fungicide. The manager completed a free service call 8/27, which was actually a months time difference in which case weather conditions could have shifted and the lawn could have healed itself. Summer fungus is very common, especially if the grass is not long enough to shade itself from harsh conditions. Many customers ask for our recommended preventative fungicide during the summer months, to avoid any future issues. In regards to the weeds within the plants, we had fertilizer, insect & disease control service set up for your shrubs. There was never a “weed in shrub bed” service set up. If there was miscommunication about this, we do apologize as we always try to be clear and honest so that everyone is on the same page. As for the Pasco County water restrictions, we know that you can only water once a week, so we recommend watering for a longer duration of time. Since you do not have a fertilizer ban, a company could fertilize during the summer but most recommend not fertilizing due to the weather conditions as it can do more harm than good and stress the lawn out when applied at that time. Prior to June 1st, we put out a slow release granular that lasts for 3 months time to ensure the lawn is being fed throughout the summer. In addition, Witches Broom is a fungus that can be found on Hollie plants and is neither preventable nor treatable by any chemical. From the University of Florida: “Diseases known to attack hollies include stem gall, twig dieback, and root rot. Stem gall, or witches' broom, is a usually fatal disease of hollies in central and south Florida. Stem galls form on twigs and branches, causing the stems to enlarge and initiate an abnormal number of shoots, producing a broom effect. The disease is spread by infected pruning tools, as well as by wind and rain.” Fungicides were included for your plants which will attend to preventable and treatable diseases which they did receive. We do, however, apologize if you were not informed of the dying plant. If the hollie was dying rapidly from a treatable fungus and needed a more systemic versus foliar treatment, we could have completed a systemic drench service to rectify the issue. Finally, your last service was at the end of August, which is the end of a transition season. During summer to fall transition seasons, weather conditions change which can all change a lawns appearance. Of course, we are sure the new company is doing a great job. All in all, we plan to discuss this feedback internally to prevent future mishaps. We are family owned and operated and care very much about every single customer. We have extensive positive reviews because of this fact & we are very sorry you did not receive the same level of service as others.
Sincerely, Always Green
https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/mg021

What a RIP off! I After we switched to another service we realized what a poor job Always Green did. We were told they could get rid of our weeds but month after month no progress. We hired a lawn mowing service that included weed and fertilizing and after the first treatment the weeds were gone. What a relief our yard looks great, no thanks to Always Green.

Provider response

Hi Judy,

I do see that you posted this review some time ago, but we felt the need to reply as you took the time to write the review. We apologize that we did not exceed expectations as we always do with our customers. We are always offering free service calls in between should you have issues such as you explained above. We will send a manager out to fix any problems needed within 24-48 hours and walk the lawn to make sure that both parties are doing there part in improving the lawn and we are ensuring quality service. We wish you the best of luck but would always love your business back!

Sincerely,
Always Green

We've been using Always Green for over a couple years now and our lawn just looks worse and worse. We've called several times to see how they can help improve the lawn but the bald spots just get worse and our grass is NOT as green as it once was. We were trying to stay loyal to the company but it's just not cutting it anymore. They may be able to handle simpler lawns but ours was clearly too much for them.
