I had D&S treat my house over 30 years ago and have had them perform an annual inspection every year since. This year, my experience has been disappointing. The initial inspection report listed dry rot but did not include an estimate of repairs, a description of the damage, or the cost of the repairs. I called and talked to Cynthia, the receptionist. She said that since "OACC" was listed on the final page, I would have to go out and find my own contractor. After saying I have always had D&S do the repairs, she said she could have the manager call me. He did, and I got the estimate I wanted and arranged for the work to be completed. So far, so good, except for Cynthia's poor attitude towards me. I received the invoice, which stated there would be a 5% discount for cash. I sent in my check that day and emailed asking how I would get the 5% discount. Dawn (the president) said a check was not cash. I would have to come to the office and hand over $ 1,500 in hard cash to get the discount. I live in Oceanside, and this property is in El Cajon while D&S is in Spring Valley. Driving 50 miles to hand-deliver cash is ridiculous. Not using a credit card or debit card to avoid the fees is no problem, but not accepting a check as cash is a poor business practice. If this is how they treat a customer of 30 years, how do you think they will treat someone new? Avoid D&S and find a termite company that actually wants return customers.

Provider response

Thank you for your feedback. I’d like to clarify a few points regarding your experience.

First, Cynthia was performing her duties exactly as trained. When “OACC” is listed on the report, it indicates that repairs fall outside our company’s licensing scope, and she followed the proper procedure by informing you of that. When you mentioned your previous repairs, she immediately escalated your concern to management—exactly what she is supposed to do.

Regarding the cash discount, our policy has always defined “cash” literally: physical currency. A check is not considered cash because it is not immediate, guaranteed payment. A check is neither green nor guaranteed Dawn (the president) also advised you that we would be willing to send a manager out to your property to collect the cash which you never responded to. We can have the manager out to the property on Friday at 11AM. While we understand the inconvenience, the terms of the discount were clearly stated in the email provided.

We value all customers, including long-term ones, and we aim to apply policies consistently for everyone.

I have been a trusted realtor in San Diego/ La Jolla for 37 years. I bend over backwards to make sure my clients are serviced and cared for and take pride in my work. I had used D & S on several occasions. That will come to an end. Had an issue on a termite tenting job where over a hundred concrete tiles on the roof were broken. I called the owner twice on two different days to discuss and she never had the courtesy to return the call, although the front desk person assured me I would get a return call. D & S should have replaced all broken tiles, but we only asked for the $600.00 to be refunded that we paid for the tile insurance. We had our own roofer do the work ( and paid him separate) since it was going to take D & S a month to get there! Since they required all funds to be paid up front they had our money and told us to wait a month to get the tiles replaced!! ...well what if it rains again?? Total disregard for customer service. Owner doesn't care!! This used to be a good company, it is going downhill fast. Do not use. There are plenty of termite companies in San Diego that have much better service and reputation.

Provider response

We sincerely apologize for any dissatisfaction with our customer service. As outlined in our tile waiver, we provide a 30-day guarantee for tile work, ensuring that new tile will be installed on the roof within that timeframe.

While we regret that we were unable to complete the work as promptly as the client had wanted and understand the inconvenience this may have caused, we did issue a reimbursement to the client as a gesture of goodwill.

We appreciate your feedback and remain committed to improving our service!

Begged them to NOT go to our new property until the day we had access to it, They still sent their prep crew a day early and had the audacity to ask the sellers to leave. This snowballed several key components of moving. When I followed up they were rude and acted like this was my fault. Ended up not using there service.

Our property management group assigned them to come to us after a termite infestation. It took them almost a week to reach out to us after they were contacted and they only did so after I reached out after not hearing from them. It's now been 2 WEEKS since their "inspection" visit and we never heard back from them about how they are going to treat it. Terrible service.

I used this company for my first time and I’m absolutely impressed with the quality of work and also the hand to hand communication. Cynthia one of the young ladies at the front desk literally held my hand through the whole process on having one of my rentals fumigated for termites, I’m a new property owner and I wasn’t sure about the whole process. She took the time and explained to me everything. She also took charge and set up all of the appropriate between my tenants. This is an awesome company. Highly recommended thank you…

After we had spent days packing up, removing food, opening and emptying cabinets, attic spaces and boxes, and moving into a hotel, on the day of tenting our house for termites they cancelled because they found a seagull nest on the roof. The law that makes it illegal to move a bird's nest was a surprise to us but it was not to them. They had inspected our house earlier and knew that it was just off the coast. They had us sign a sheaf of papers with disclaimers and warnings including those about dogs and cats and much else, but not a word about this law. Days of prep, hundreds of dollars and a considerable amount of energy wasted because they didn't think it important to warn us. If they've been in this business for as long as they claim, this could not have been the first time for them.

Out hoa hired them to fumigate the apartment complex. We have renters who we paid to relocate to hotels for the duration. Without informing us the extermination company canceled due to an equipment problem, never completing the job. We are out close to $500 due to them. I wouldn’t hire them. They are unreliable.
